Downfall of Arcanine

Everyone who saw the Attackers tier list knows that Arcky got tier 3, but why?

He's still the best fire attacker, still tears everything that dont resist it, so why the low ranking? Even Blastoise is on a higher rank and it became worthless with it's nerf and vaporeon boost.

Since he's still great overall attacker and best grass destroyer he deserves a higher rank.

totally agree.

This was asked many times, i did not read any justification for either ranking (8 only) or, now, position on attackers tier list.

Yes deserve tier 2 at least, maybe tier 1,5.

Why are you guys so worried where this website ranks pokemon? Arcanine is still a great attacker so if using him still works for you then by all means use him. These rankings are not the be all/end all rankings.

The new updated list is pretty bad. Arcanine should definitely be at least tier 1.5. I don't see a scenario where Alakazam should be Tier 1 given its horrid tankiness.

I've been using this list since the update.

That list accurately reflects my experience. The top 35 are all Snorlax, Dragonite, Lapras, Rhydon, Vape, Gyarados, or Golem. You can send everything else to the professor.

He is low rank because now as gym def there are not many grass type, the only one still strong is eggy. And earth type are stronger. So attacking fire isn't that great.

Don't forget about ice pokemon though. IMO Arcanine is still the best pokemon to take out Lapras.

This...

I think GP takes into account the best defenders people are using so with so many Vaps, Rhydons you now see, water/grass typing is much more useful as attackers since I have seen an insane small number of grass types in gyms since...Most grass types also got nerfed a bit...

Lapras is there, but is still more rare and sits lower in a gym now so probably due to the Rhydon effect...

I honestly don't agree with even having an attacking tier list, when attacking, you should mostly look at the highest DPS per type chart and judge YOUR local metagame for yourself, when you defend sure, having a chart that tells you which pokemon are the best at holding a spot in a gym is very useful, but when attacking you can just pick whatever it's best to defeat any given pokemon of any given type and be fine. Now... the point here might be that with the rise of Water and Rock type pokemon as defenders, there are many more pokemon that resist Arcanine's attack, so his rating as an attacker was punished as a result.

I think GP was pretty clear about this...and as posted, just use what makes sense...

but people here keep clamoring for a list so they made one...

Seems to be ok to me...

Considering that Arcanine is good against both Tier 1's, one 1.5, and one 2, he definitely should be Tier 2.

Agreed. Blastoise (which is useless now) being in a better tier than Arcanaine/Charizard/Flareon is ridiculous.

I guess it depends of the Tier definition.

My definitions:
Tier 1: Best Attacking Pokemon against a wide range of Pokemon. (Snorlax, Vaporeon, Dragonite)
Tier 1.5: Best Attacking Pokemon against a narrow range of Pokemon. (Rhydon, Lapras).
Tier 2: Second choice Pokemon when you do not have the preferred Tier 1/Tier1.5 equivalent.
Tier 3: Third choice Pokemon when you do not have the Tier 2 equivalent.

Since Arcanine is the second best Pokemon against Exeggcutor and grass Pokemons after the rare Dragonite and Snorlax, it meets my Tier 2 definition. (or Tier 2.5 if grass Pokemon are rare in your metagame).

On the other hand, Exeggcutor, Gyarados, and Waterish Omastar are worst than Vaporeon for every fight. They should also be Tier 2. (And, compared to Arcanine, rarely useful Tier 2 since everybody has a Vaporeon but not everybody has a good Dragonite)

Arcanine is still a beast. I have one nearly perfect that is just shy of 2500cp and another 90% at 2400CP (FF/FB for both). They rip through things so fast its not even funny.

I love using them and will continue to use them. Rank 3 is too low.

Charizard is actually the best fire type now since it is double resistant to the grass types you'd typically use a fire type on. There is no need to use Arcanine against Lapras now since Jolteon's stats were buffed (you're just trading ice resistance for super effective attacks).

The only time Arcanine shines now is if you're facing an Exeggutor with Confusion+Psychic, which is a pretty narrow niche.
