Donphan solo - minimum amounts of Kyogre?
Just tried a Donphan solo with 2 Kyogres, lvl 30.5, 15 attack plus a level 34 100 %Gyarados. All with Wf/HP. Left to instant revive after first 2 Kyogre went down and finished the last 20 sec using the Gary. So 4 Kyogres + a bit Gyra - revive time. Not enough, Boss had Play Rough, maybe 5-6 mm red left.
Has anyone tried this set up with 3 Kyogres? Hesitant to bring another Kyogre to level 30 if it’s still not enough.

Do you have enough high IV Kyogres? I have 4, all powered up to over level 30, and wish I had more. Kyogre's place in the meta seems fairly safe, unless Palkia gets a double water move, which our local Pokemon experts say isn't likely. Now, for utility, what raid bosses is Kyogre useful for? Answer - all of them that don't resist water when it's raining, and many others when not. It may not have immediate uses, but Kyogre is one of the pokemon where having 6 of them isn't a problem.
You make an excellent point, Rick. We don't know what the mechanics of OP will be. Does it need to come on a new Kyogre, like the special moves on the starters (or SD on Ttar), or will we be able to take our best Kyogre and activate OP on it somehow? Will Niantic limit it to one per trainer, or can we switch a whole team over? Will we be required to get 1-6 Kyogres with OP, making our current teams obsolete?
The real question is how much utility will you get from the ones you power up now from now until OP is out? If the investment in them, in candy and dust, is worth it, then do it. If not, don't.
3 should be fine, even in play rough. In fact if your Kyogres are lv35+, 2 should be good. You have 2 options here:
1. Power up at least 1 kyogre to 2 to 5 levels higher.
Or:
2. Power up the other one to 30.
Also play rough is extremely hard to dodge so practice dodging it. Slaking defenders are usually good targets to practice dodging that move.
I have one kyogre at level 40 and one Gyarados at level 40. Add in FP Venusaur and Exeggutor (both at level 40) and I was able to do it in neutral weather. Depending on how much candy you're willing to invest, it might be better to power up your best kyogre higher. Keep in mind that if you try with Gyarados, it hits a breakpoint at level 40 with 15 attack.
