Debating whether to evolve a lvl 27 low IV phanpy or high IV one I just hatched? Should I evolve the higher level so I can use as a defender right away or evolve the higher IV and power up?
I have 400K dust, but will only have 15 candy left over once I evolve.
Also does Donphan carry any favorable matchups or perform well as a generalist attacker? What are your experiences with battling?
Donphan, with his single ground typing is weak to water. A low level Vaporeon will easily take him out. His movesets also don't provide type coverage.
Also, Vaporeon also has higher max CP, and IV for IV, Vaporeon will sit higher than Donphan in gyms. In other words if you evolve your low IV Don its CP will be too low for gyms as a regular iV Vape at the same level can climb above it.
That said I like using my T/EQ Don once in a while as a generalist attacker, it's fun for a change.
I have a 14/15/14 Donphan with C/EQ who has been sitting in a gym for two weeks now. The gym is kind of far out of the way. More importantly I see the occasional Rhyhorn as a defender in my area, otherwise its mostly waters/normals/psychics. Donphan's typing diversifies just about any gym I throw him in and forces attackers to use a water or grass type where they otherwise might pass up.
