Does anyone else prestige their gyms up a tiny bit because 1 prestige is as good as 1000?

Attackers can only shave off 1000 prestige at a time.

So, from the attacker standpoint, a gym with 10,001 prestige is the same as a gym with 11,000 prestige. They will have to take exactly the same number of runs and face exactly the same Pokemon.

For that reason, when I see a non-L10, friendly gym with prestige ends with 000, I usually do a quick attack with an overpowered pokemon and add just a few prestige, usually running as soon as I get to the second mon. I do this whether even if I'm in the gym, or if I don't want to get into that gym... (Of course, if I want in, I have to fight more...)

It makes the gym just a bit more tough to take over - 1 prestige means the attacker will have to beat one more mon...

Does anyone else do this?

Yes, of course, time and potion efficient.

I did not do this until now - but it is a great idea! Thank you very much.

Typically i can find some 3er gyms with 6k xp out here. If i take them down, i usually fight the two lesser defenders for 2kxp, then the whole gym for 3+1kxp. With your strategy, this would not work anymore, i had to take the boss down two times.

Great!!! :-)

It depends.
6000-7000 makes no difference, so 6999 is the same as 6000. But as soon as it hits 7001, the attacker need to battle at least 3+2+1=6 mons (3 rolls).
Same for 20000-20999 and others.

that is critical in my city, gyms usually dont last longer than 2 hrs.

make sure u take into account the full clear bonus (1000 extra for defeating all pokemon in gym), as well as the prestige after one full clear.

so,
for a 1 pokemon gym, u want 2001
for a 2 pokemon gym, u want 6001 (not easy)
for a 3 pokemon gym, u want 7001
then the trick doesnt really matter from here on

In the best case scenario, when you force the opponent to run an additional round, you lose 30s of your life to make someone else lose 30s of his life.

In other scenario, when the opponent is not affected after the gym was further build up, you lose 30s of your life for nothing.

That is not really helping mankind.

This is true, if opponent calculates before attacking and reverses your action with attacking the weekest pokemon once.
If he does not notice or ignores and just goes through, he might battle the gym boss once more, likely losing more than 30 seconds of his life and maybe more than a yellow potion.

As an attacker, I like when people do this because it's more exp for me blasting through the lowest rungs of the gym :-)
