Does the 50 coin per day limit still apply?
There is some talk of Reddit of changes in the text of the Defender bonus page.
"As of now, I don't see this quote on either the "What's new?" page or the defender bonus info page. In fact, I don't see anything about any limitation on the number of coins you can collect per day."
All our Mons have returned after a few minutes or are currently working at least an 8 hour shift defending a gym...
So we can't really tell, I can't see why they can't have a cap of 10 coins per mon for taking the gym plus 10 coins per day ... with some ability to visit the the gym each day and collect.
OK it is an upgrade, I think they are working on things, they never seem to get it right first time but it isn't easy to please everyone.

This aspect is not well thought out....
WIth the 1 hour per coin limit players were not earning coins, after the switch to 10 minutes per coin and th 50 coins per day limit players seemed to have stopped attacking...
There was an initial rush of attacking with the excitement the new system, then it stopped.
Gyms are easier to take down, so I think Niantic thought players would keep doing it....
They need to rethink this area and get it right, they are scrambling to hit a moving target...
I am not sure how they make their decisions, they need to get feedback from players before releasing changes.
On the actual topic as far as I can tell the daily limit still applies .. but it is subject to change.
I now think what is fair is being able to collect 10 coins per day from each mon in a gym ... and keep the 50 coin limit.... you get 50 coins so benefit from having around 5 mons in a gym ...
Or you can get 20 coins (if earned) by visiting the gym - 50 coin per day limit still applies.
You get a bonus of the balance when the defender is returned - subject to the 50 coin limit...
Note this helps rural players they may only have one gym nearby but they can visit each day and collect 20 coins...
The would need to develop this and it may take time, but I think it is fair...

I think having a cap is all well and good. Perhaps keep it low, lower the amount of coins per hour, but have an item that drops on a rare occasion from gyms or stops that increases the cap or coin amount for a 24 hour period. If this item was only available from team gyms or leveled up gyms it would make it that much more prudent to take and hold gyms.
