When I first starting playing I was certain a high defense stat would mean my gym mon would be dodging like crazy. XD

That's actually a good idea. So far defense and stamina have basically accomplished the same thing (tolerance of attack). Would be interesting to split them out.

They could but there would really be no point.
It is like adding RNG/luck for pure aggravation and decreasing reward for attacker skill. If they want to make defenders tougher they can do this in a less luck based way and just buff them more without the silliness of RNG based dodging.

I guess the only thing would be that it would require some amount of skill regarding how to time your charge move so it would most likely hit. Like during the opponent's cool down.
Also it would somewhat prepare people for pvp whenever that happens.

Now that only the opposing team will be fighting my monster, I'd prefer the opportunity of giving my pokémon an oran berry to hold for it to heal during a combat.
