Ditto vs dragonite

Noob question but i am yet to be a proud owner of a dragonite and icemons are rly rare in my area. In theory ditto could be close to having an even match up with dragonite or at least take out a good chunk of the dragonites hp if he has dragon moves. Am i living in fantasy land too much or is it possible?

No, you are not fantasizing. There was a good thread about using Dittos for prestiging, especially against Dragonite, over on Reddit Pokemon Go (may have been Silph Road). If your Ditto is high enough level, it could even be used as an attacker, though you will have roughly 1/2 the HP of a similar level Dragonite.

Using the Ditto Calculator here, a:
Ditto level 30 14/14/14 will transform to
Dragonite level 30 CP 3044, HP 80

That hp problem sucks specially with the annoying dodge bug =/ Im gonna look for that thread. Thx man

Not the question, but:
If you live in a water biome/got enough Magikarps during water event, I have found Gyarados with Bite/Outrage to be a pretty good alternative against Dragonite.

If you live in a desert biome, Golem with Rock Throw/Stone Edge can work.

My village is all bug, grass, normal and flying mainly. I have 1 graveller and 50 candies and a magikarp with 100 candies. Its funny cuz near the river i get a few water pops but magikarps are rly rare around these parts. Dunno how the gyms around here can be packed with Gyarados and dragonites

Walk these mons, they're 1 candy/km, even gps drift will bring you a few candies when you're at home.
