Ditto. How rare? Gym compatible?

just caught a Ditto. Have you already caught one? I fought with it in a gym against a Vaporeon (CP 1897). My Ditto transformed into a Vaporeon with 2026 CP but its defense was quite bad and it died in seconds.

Ditto in the gym seems to offer some interesting possibilities. It mirrors base stats, quick move, and charge move, which probably means it keeps its own level, IVs, and normal typing. The first two of these are just a matter of strength, thus dull. But the typing and the different way the gym handles attackers and defenders introduce interesting asymmetries.
In your case, the fast quick move of Vaporeon should benefit Ditto on attack. But the Ditto-Vaporeon does not resist water attacks, while the real Vaporeon does. This would have been a huge disadvantage with this pairing.
I wonder how Ditto will do against Dragonites. They take extra damage from their own Dragon attacks...
