Did in game Tracker finally get useful?
My 9 Mon Tracker just showed a Mon missing from my Pokedex which is over a kilometer away! Only the second time I have seen this as my Dex is pretty full. If this issue is obvious to most, my apologies for posting. When did this begin and does the Tracker show you new Mons consistently? I wonder what the maximum distance is? Thankfully it isn't showing all the Tauros, Kangaskhan and other regionals I am missing!! LOL

It's pretty far. When A-Eggy went live I could see a shadow in nearby from 600-700m away until I caught one.
Now that they have this functionality in the game they really should just add the same priorization to all ultra rare spawns whether they're in your dex or not. Dragonite, Snorlax, Chansey, Tyranitar, Blissey, Togetic etc.
EDIT: So people actually like seeing only common spawns in their nearby if there's an ultra rare 500m away? Ok.
Another point is that if there's a tracked mon nearby, and you're in your car, driving above catching speed (about 12 MPH or 20 km/hr), all pokemon in the radar may disappear, giving you the "pokemon fled" message. Keep going to the place it was at, and then slow down, and it may reappear with the other pokemon, but it may be off your tracker because it was gone.
It still will not show wild Pokémon in "grass" which can be found 30 meters away from you, which could be a bit away from stops, near Gyms, or along trails. The grass ones only seem to appear once you do not have any stops in view anymore :(
Yesterday I caught a wild Vaporeon over 2300 CP in a field, but it was never indicated while those at stops 1 km away are. It is really disappointing that Niantic still has not fixed this.
I share your disappointment here, as this is something I would think Niantic could easily fix. We already have the ability to swipe between nearby Pokemon and nearby raids, so they could just add an additional screen there for Pokemon that are physically near you (the ones in the "grass"), but not necessarily at Pokestops.
I'm glad they updated the existing tracker to prioritize things you don't have, but damn, do I miss the old "footprint" tracking system, as it actually gave me the sensation that I was tracking something down.
I also miss footprint tracking. But the theory is that they don't want to fix this and intentionally moved away from 3-step tracking to avoid potential legal problems. Pokestops are mostly guaranteed to be in accessible places without need to trespass, so tracking mons to a pokestop is safe for Niantic.
