Delete new inactive "Friends" on the Friends list?

I have responded to a number of trainers publicizing their codes on the internet to get added as remote Friends, but I have noted quite different responses. While almost all trainers accept the initial invitation, only a fraction start exchanging gifts with more or less regular intervals, the rest do not respond further upon recieval of my first gift. There could be good reasons for the lack of response, such as an overwhelming number of invitations, but if so, I do not understand why the trainer accepts further invitations. I suspect many trainers see the invitations and accompanied gifts as a stock of items and/or eggs for future use, and not for building new friendships. While I understand the rationale for such a behavior, it is quite selfish and also a strong incentive for spamming codes on various fora on the internet.

I have therefore started to delete friends who do not respond when I send them my first gift. Does anybody know if my trainer nickname and associated gift will disappear from their long list or will they still be able to retrieve the gift that I have sent?

i had to delete some when i posted my id here, i couldn't get gifts for everyone, and i was only sending back to people at the top of my list, i dont send gifts to locals, there was too many people, i usualy see around 5 to 10 people participating on the discussions here but there was over 100 requests on the first day, i was overwhelmd i couldn't get gifts for every one, i reject every one that doesnt have a geotag on their buddy.

Means you name your buddy with the country/place you come from so that other trainers can predict the collection of long-distance eggs (for the pilot medal via trading)

Ah, gotcha - it's something I have to do, not something that is done by Niantic. I'd have to rename my buddy to "Canada" or something like that.

Hmm. I like that idea - it's a good idea.

That is fair enough, but it does not explain why so many trainers accept my invitation and in the next instance does not even respond when I send them my first gift. Unless they hord new gifts on their growing list of inactive friends.

i'm getting around 30 gifts from pokestops a day and i handover all of the to foreigners, but i cant open even 5 to get the eggs because i dont use incubators. Now i have around 20 foreing gifts to open, that will take around one week to go through. I think people are seeing that there is no reason to have dozens of foreing friends

Fair enough if trainers want to focus on local friends, but why then publicize their codes on internet? And if they do so, why accept invitations from more than a handful international friends.

for me its odd because i'm in a local app group with people that i raid with daily with around a 100 people that i may or not meet for raid and i dont remember all their ingame names, so when someone adds me idk if they are from here or from the group, i have to accept, check their geotag and maybe where are their gifts are from(if its in japanese, chinese, strange accentuations from eastern europe and even search on google sometimes)

You only level up friendship for one action per day.

Since I have limited bag space, I try to not open gifts from people I've sent a gift to that day, and I try to not send gifts to people I've received a gift from that day until I've sent gifts to everyone else.

As a result, it may take me a day to respond to someone. My focus is building up as many friendships as fast as possible though - I honestly don't care about the gifts as I discard 90% of the items I get from them due to not having bag storage (already full of pinap/ultra/max revive/goldrazz/rare candy/TMs )

I wouldn't assume everyone always has gifts. There are many days that I only spin 1 pokestop. I spun probably 20 today and only got 5 gifts. Since the buddy thing started, I have given all of my 20 friends at least 1. I have not gotten around to giving a second yet. Not everyone is super active.

You can only hold 5 gifts at a time in your inventory. Once you get 5, send them to friends and continue spinning pokestops in order to get new gifts. I don't know the total daily limit (open is 20, but no idea how many you can send).

Crap, didn't know that. That first day I was sending them as I got them, so that explains that.

I have no problems with trainers not having new gifts every day, but have wondered when they not even opened their first gift, but I understand now that this can be caused by the limit to open 20 gifts /day.

That sounds familiar. Some of the international friends requested here have opened 2-3 of my gifts not sending any in return yet. Others have gifts pending. I'm waiting a few days in case they feel overwhelmed with too many friends to manage. After that, I'll delete those who are not responsive. After all, friendship is supposed to go both ways, isn't it?

I don't know if the gift is lost after removing the friendship. It doesn't really matter. I would expect you to disappear from their list. Friendship can be terminated unilaterally, right Niantic?

One can only open 20 a day. I have gifts still sitting from Saturday because I got sent over 100 and there are a few other gifts (5-7) I need to prioritize opening each day. Ergo, I have about 25 friendships still to push to good just from local raiders I haven't bumped into yet. People are still cleaning up their list. Chill.

I was not aware of the limit of 20 gifts opened per day. That may explain why so many gifts are pending with friendship level not leveled up to good.

Speaking for myself, but i dont play pokemon go every day and dont live near a pokestop. I didnt even open all the gifts people sent me because of bag space. I plan to send a gift to all as soon as i can, but it will take some time.

You shouldnt take that personal. People who posted their code here have 100+ friends and gifts for 3-4 days in advanced.

Like everyone else I got completely overwelmed by it. I still accept because the other guy might be a local who will get offended if not.
Of course locals get priority (raid bonus etc). But I try to be efficent. So if I raid with someone I wont open/send a gift but at the end of the day I make sure that I leveled them up. Rest goes to the others. Im sorry but its too much of an effort to do it "fair" I just take the few on top.

Think it is fair to say when the other doesnt open/send a gift after 2 days, then u are not on his "list" and u should move on/ delete friendship or whatever pleases u the most.

Good to see some people seeing it like this. I also got quickly overwhelmed. For now I only accepted a few requests, makes more sense to build only a few ones to keep up with and I will add many more in my local group anyway for raid purposes. So I won't accept every request, not because I don't want to but because it would become unmanageable :) I'll try to build friendships with people from different locations across the globe though, seems nice :)

Got to do that location tagging on my buddy myself, neat idea.

A chat feature would really help in this...

I try to have 5 (semi-)active international friends and the rest locals (100+). Seams like a decent balance to me.

After a week most of the locals are overwhelmed by gifts and things have settled a bit.

I prioritize the international friends and start at the bottom each day with the local ones. I go through the whole list each day and send gifts to every one available.
