Defensive Poliwrath

Hi all! I already evolved 10 Poliwrath hoping to get a good defender. The only ones that get bubble were:
1# CP 1983 IV 84-89% moves BB/SM
2# CP 1644 IV 89% moves BB/IP
3# CP 1388 IV 96% moves BB/SM

I was kinda waiting to get Hidro Pump but I am still not sure of what is the best defensive moveset for Poliwrath. So give me your opinion. Should I wait for another Poliwrath with BB/HP or should I power up one these three? Which one?

PS: dust and candys won't be a problem.

Out of 7 I've had mud shot with all but one evolve!

Ice Punch gives a bit of a surprise to attacking grasses and dragonites, but probably doesn't stop you getting killed.

Submission probably does more damage to a wider range of species and is slightly confusing to dodge.

Hydro pump is easily dodgeable for a lot of players, but will still inflict some damage even if dodged. Will seriously damage anyone who doesn't.

I'd be tempted by no1 , unless candy and dust really aren't a concern, in which case go for no3 for the marginally higher gym position (depending on local gyms you'll probably want to take him a little beyond lv30 to stop him being the bottom defender).

The reasons that I liked to have HP are:
* Gives more time/turns to Poliwrath use BB which is incredibily strong as a Quick move. With SM and IP it will not use so many times BB, and BB is for me what makes Poliwrath such a Defensive Monster comparing to other Water type Pokémon;
* Like you said, even if you dodge it still will inflict a good damage to the opponent.

Yes, you'll get more Bubble shots in, but considering Exeggutor is the most likely Poliwrath counter an attacker will use, there is NOTHING more annoying than getting Ice Punched a few times, even without the STAB. Bubble is strong, but Exeggutor takes it pretty well. Three landed Ice Punches will knock him pretty close to out.

if you always try to squeeze in one move between BB's animation and the yellow flash, you might occssionally miss the dodge when HB hits.

But I agree with all that you said, só that's why it's complicated to me :/

I like IP personally, but submission is good too because of STAB. To me, HP is too easy to dodge, and players are less likely to bother dodging the others, which is even better. Bottom line, I like IP.

Submission is only slightly less damage compared to Hydro Pump on defense, so if I were you, I'd probably pump that #1 up to level 30 and wait to get a better one if you're going to power up past 30.

I like Poliwrath, and evolved a 100% Bubble / Ice Punch, but I don't see much point in powering it up based on the gym CP levels around here.

You can fit three Zen headbutts between back to back bubbles so when I find it easiest to fight a Poliwrath with Bbl/HP. Id go with #1, its already pretty big and wont cost you much to max.

Just caught an IV 84 level 30 Poliwag, and it evolved Poliwrath with Bubble . Hydro Pump. 2030 CP. I'll throw it in a gym tomorrow for fun.
