I have found players on other teams to be way cooler and way friendlier than those on my team. I have only once met a serious player from my team. We are a team of solo players, which makes it kind of impressive we hold our own against groups. Imagine what we could do if we could organize and team up...I don't expect much out of them.
Dear Teammate (A Rant - and a Question)
So I went for a walk at the local poke park (10 stops/1 km loop trail) and saw that the gym was held by my team, Mystic and only needed 1000 prestige to open a slot (7000 to 8000). No problem, my dewgong had no trouble taking care of the lowest defender, a dragonite. It went so well, in fact, that I decided to prestige it up further to 12,000 so a noob teammate would be able to jump in. As I sat there - right there, there are no hiding places - and selected my prestigers for the next round, I couldn't believe that I got an error message - and saw that someone had sniped my spot!
This has never happened to me before, amazingly, and thoroughly ticked me off. How, dare you, "teammate"? Are you a sniping backstabber or a spoofer? Your name is well known to me, and you should know mine (I finished prestiging and added my defender as well). So why did you do this?
I know sniping is not against TOS, but neither is shaving. She amazingly put in the lowest CP defender. You are tempting me, teammate, to go to my alt account (Just kidding!!!! Don't have one, but my family members are on rival teams) and get even.
I was amazed how much this enraged me!! Never thought it would. Nothing that Valor or Instinct have done has ever made me mad like this (they wanna take down our gyms? Fine, that's their job! And getting even is fun).
What would you do? I've simmered down since, of course, and would not even kick a backstabbing teammate (spoofer, yes, but I can't be certain) out of a gym. But why are they doing this? Don't they see the gym was just prestiged, someone with a phone is sitting there, and may have just done it? So why don't you give it a few minutes to be sure? You're level 37, I'm only 34, don't tell me you don't know how to prestige a gym.
Rant over. Just had to vent ;)

Happened to me just the other day. A gym was L8 and ~2/3 of the way to 9. So I ran it up to 9 and some dirt bag dropped in his critter.... from non-present location. That REALLY makes me want to help my non-playing daughter create an account and help her level it up (for a different team naturally) and show her how to gym battle.
I was sniped a while back for the first time and was equally enraged and upset (I also wrote about it here).

In my case, I had just prestiged a level 9 gym to 50,000 with a Blissey at spot 9 and was then sniped by a teammate. There was no-one else around (I was in an empty car park), so I guess it was a spoofer.
What upset me most in my case was that the sniper / spoofer then put in the 10th pokemon with a CP below the Blissey.
I was furious for days, but got over it slowly.
Yesterday, I prestiged a gym from level 4 to level 7, but placed my mon immediately upon reaching level 5 in case anyone sniped it (which didn't happen), so I still felt good and continued to leave 2 free spots.
I was sweating it the other day when I prestiged a level 8 to 9 (8000) and fought a bodyslam snorlax over and over (next was a blissey). There was a suspicious looking pickup truck with dark tinted windows nearby, LOL. But I had my Gyarados ready to go and he is now the king of the gym.
But if I had been sniped after all that time and potions.... the thought!
We had a gym knocked down to leave a Blissey in the bottom spot of the gym (my Blissey)
No one would prestige against it so the gyms stopped for a day.
I went and trained it up myself - even though I was already in the gym.
As I was doing it, a kid (probably about 15-16) sat on another bench nearby and was looking at his phone.
I knew my next battle run would open up a slot in the gym - this was the point.
As I finished my run, the kid on the other bench got up, looked at me and laughed...and walked away.
Basically, he waited for me to open a slot, sniped it....and then laughed at me because he thought he screwed me over.
I was only there to provide a free spot for team mates - so that part was OK.
The part where he saw me doing it, waited for the snipe and then laughed at me when he thought he got one over on me was what pissed me off.
He should have been thanking me...instead he thought he got one over on me, and thought he was so good he could laugh.
Needless to say I just wanted to bitch slap him into next week for being a rude little....
Instead I sat and opened up another slot for someone else too.
I may sound like an old fogie now, but does today's youth have any integrity/values/honor (that I'm trying to pass on to my 12-year-old twins)?
So this boy watched you prestige the gym, not knowing what you were up to, and shamelessly stole the spot you opened (presumably for yourself)? I'm amazed he wasn't worried about gym rage as you might have gone after him.
What a missed opportunity, as well, of meeting and befriending a teammate.
What a shame....
I find kids, in general annoying...oops, I seem to have a few myself...
Overall, we've all been sniped...I've been sniped multiple times (always 8k prestige) and it's IMPOSSIBLE to not get sniped since there is too much time after you get "Victory" (when the spot is opened) and quickly exiting out.
This really needs to be fixed since it's impossible to be faster than someone constantly clicking on the gym...
That said, getting sniped for 2k is a minor concern and if a gym is very low level, I don't mind doing a few more runs at it to open spots in general...
A LOT of people have no clue how to prestige even if very high level 37+ so don't be surprised if they snipe your spot or take forever to prestige...
You're right, of course, on all counts. I guess I was just surprised by my own reaction to something I have probably done to my teammates myself - unknowingly - as I am always eager to jump into an open slot (confession over). That's one reason why I try to prestige a gym up further if I have the time.
I sure didn't know how to prestige until I came to this site....
Thanks for your input.
it's IMPOSSIBLE to not get sniped since there is too much time after you get "Victory" (when the spot is opened) and quickly exiting out.
I use second phone when I afraid to be sniped, one could instantly put mon in gym from second phone after win.
Since you know exact moment when you'll add enough prestige, it's very unlikely to be sniped by human.
I am a bit of an old fogie too...and wondering if I am becoming the grumpy old guy I dread becoming, but in this case I am putting this one on him.
This gym is in a rather public spot...as small local shoppin centre. So if I game raged at a kid I would have looked like the aSp-hole in that situation.
Being that I am quite a bit older, and rather large (6ft tall and a solid 100kg), then others around us would have looked at me as the trouble maker. So he knew he would get away with it.
I suspect if we had been in a park, and there was no one else around he may have been more discreet, and would not have had the cahoneys to laugh - but I imagine he still would have sniped.
If he had bothered to chat like team mates and be civil...he would have found a very valuable ally.
His loss, not mine - all over 1 single gym spot
What happened to you happened to me once. I am a slow old guy. I leveled up a gym. A car rolled up. A young girl hopped out and sniped my spot before I could remember how to add my Pokemon to the gym. She got back in the car, laughing, and the car sped away. I know her player name. Ran into her dad several months later. (Whole family is on the same team.) I told him about her sniping. He laughed and said "Yeah, she does that." Whole thing was hilarious. Remember - its just a game. But still, I fell your pain and liked your rant! I say - look for a chance to get even.
Not funny, he should teach his kid(s) some manners! My family members are all on different teams (except my son and I are on the same one), but I set them straight right away about not shaving teammates.
Am I taking this too seriously? It's a game, sure, but like in sports, there is fair and unfair gameplay.
Thanks for the comment. BTW, one thing I love about this game is that it's for all ages.
I look at it as that parent missed an opportunity to teach his kids good life skills. If you can do that with a game, rather than waiting for an important life experience to learn these lessons the hard way then that is parenting done right.
Waiting until it is a critical life lesson before you teach them is doing no favours to anyone.
OMG...I do sound like a grumpy old fuddy duddy.
Same thing happened to me. I was at a park with a level 10 Valor gym so I had my Mystic friend take down a spot so I could train into this finally train it up go to put in a defender and boom I was sniped. Repeat this cycle 10 times happens again and again and again. Finally on the 11th try I get in the gym but I know a spoofer was doing this because there was no other Pokémon go players there. Lesson of the day same team spoofers are worse then other team spoofers
