Current "Fears of"
*Trading
*Evolving anything that is halfdecent
*Powering up anything
*Scheduling anything that might interfere with an important community day
*Opening a gift while you have an open egg space. Plus, I'm stuck away from any pokestops and have no gifts to send. I have four people that'll be ultrafriends today, 3 of them aren't 40 yet. I want them to open first so they can sync xp bonus/lucky egg.
Any other current/common pervading fears?

You probably won't quit, you'll enter a don't care mode just like me and my wife. We put pokemon go into our life not our life into pokemon go. We missed 3 community day events, and didn't play articuno event either. We no longer chasing ex raids. We only play when we are out on a walk or doing a raid here and there when we are on the way to somewhere. Because of spoofers, niantic decided to punish us all on trades, and pokemons look good last week, this week, they are no good due to move changes. We didn't play as much, so niantic emailed a we miss you email with promo codes. I had no idea what was in the codes as expired in 3 days. Lol, someone is desperate.
Trading's really just for fun and a way to convert bad iv rare pokemon into more candy if you got them from far away
Powering and evolving things up shouldn't be somethingn to be affraid of, theres a lot of reliable pokemon that likely wont get any better movesets(gardevoir, dragonite, tyranitar, machamp, event charizard and venasaur, and others) legendaries its understandable but the main concerns are only groudon and kyogre, pokemon like mewtwo are safe to power up pokemon like Rhydon and some other assorted gen iv evolution pokemon are safe as they can only get better (rhydon, magneton, piloswine)
As for evolving, theres a small pool of likely event pokemon, starters pseudo legendaries (bagon beldum) and certain 10 k egg pokemon
The alolan eggs, after geodude and diglet were added are a lot less heavy in the trash mon, hatched 4 alolans, got 3 geodude and a vulpix (the odds were likely super heavy in the bad ones because thats what they took the percent chance from for diglet and geodude)
There really arent too many other than that, a lot of these fears are small things that had gotten blown what out of proportion (like people affraid to power up 'legendaries' because 2 of them have potential to get better, while the others dont have that) and the ever pervasive speculation on what event/legacy pokemon will be out next (all of which can be narrowed down to a reasonable small pool of likely candidate what would be worth getting, no ones really going to care for legacy steel wing scyther)
Some of these I do see, some I don't:
- Trading: IV reroll doesn't completely negate trading IMO, it just changes ideal trade candidates. Instead of trading away perfects you're better off trading high-level/low-IV catches. Unfortunately legendaries still get the shaft here, doubly so with high stardust costs.
- Powering up anything: Agreed, though specifically anything that only has one role (Zapdos) or is likely to get a Community Day (starters, 10k hatches). I'll give it until next month's CD before seeing if there is an established pattern and Eevee was a one-off for LGPE promotion or if literally anything can be CD eligible.
- CD schedules: Personally not an issue since they announce them about a month out usually, but I know I'm not everyone.
- Opening a gift: I'm going to collect and hatch as many Alolan eggs until I hatch a snow fox god dammit. Why must you be so elusive?!
Using a hypothetical Earth Power with the same stats as Wild Charge (Power 90, E.Delta 50, Duration 2.6s, Attack 1.7s) it would ramp Flygon's DPS up to Groudon levels while putting its total damage output between MS/EQ Swampert and MS/BD Sandslash. A frightening glass cannon for sure, but unless it was a community day exclusive or something anything else with it would still outclass it.
As far as I'm concerned that's on them. Until we get a better idea of odds and how "aged" something needs to be to maximize those odds I wouldn't even consider it to be a factor. Nobody who plays this game knows how to wait, the minute anything is "leaked" or announced everyone starts pissing themselves in anticipation, even if the leaked thing turns out to not be true.
Its kinda funny how that works, its is partly sites like this to blame because people tend to blow things out of proportion, or info tends to get somewhat distorted,
Thats the reason im not overly worried about signature moves, its a similar story. (gen iv's a bit of a different story, as they did tease it on their twitter)
Thing is, this site doesn't officially report anything unless it's been announced or there's some indicator of it in the game's code.
I'm talking more like... back in late fall (I think?) on one of the Facebook groups someone kept posting clickbait BS PoGo articles which were either a) not ture, or b) things we already knew about. One of the things they shared mentioned Ho-Oh becoming the next EX raid boss. So naturally there was hostility everywhere because we didn't know then what we do now about triggering EX raids and people didn't want Ho-Oh to be behind the EX wall. That's the sort of thing I mean.
Other examples include people expecting a Diglett community day following Dratini because of a shitty photoshop image, shiny Electrike being made available due to a shitty photoshop, and that Ho-Oh R2 would happen immediately after Lugia and it would come with Sacred Fire. None of these things came to pass (fully anyway, we did get Ho-Oh R2) yet people still freaked out about all of them, either positively or negatively.
I have everything I need already, I am well past 20 million XP. Reaching level 40 once was a place that you could instantly evolve everything bc XP doesn't matter (if it ever did matter). There is no place like that anymore.
As far as trading goes, people have patiently exchanged gifts for 30+days and smartly waited to complete relevant trades...then right as a trading party about to commence...a big downer by their false in-game announcement
Trading:
In my eyes Niantic did it the best way possible. It should help people fill their dexes and not to get high IV's without effort.
Power up / Evolve / special moves:
This sucks a little. Since it punishes the guys making the damage in raids while rewarding those who save the dust and dont do sh*t
On the other hand the game would be finished at some point if they dont shake things up...
I think it would be a fair solution to give players 1 Special TM if they do something like a Community Move.
Community Day in terms of having time:
I know a lot who just give their account to someone else at that day (also for EX Raid). Not a fan of that but its a solution to think about...
egg space/opening gifts:
I will never understand people who see that as a problem...
Friendship level:
respect for that. I did let myself go in that regard. Still 4 days for the first. (5/7/7/7 the next ones)
I think with the egg thing people just got tired of hatching 50 Meowths and Sandshrews back to back, which was then made worse when Ratatta was added to the mix (for what fucking purpose, Niantic?). Since the recent additions I seem to be hatching mostly Geodude now - I welcome the addition and all the free Geodude candy but sadly I don't think I'll ever power up an A-Golem since I already have beefy SD Tyranitars and K-Golem.
I've got no fears.
I haven't traded anything yet, but if someone has a Pokemon I need (a regional or a missing Unown) I might trade for one. Why should I fear it? It's not as if there's a chance that they Pokemon that will come to you has a 50% chance of getting lost and not arrive. Sure, it might have worse IVs, but for me that isn't an issue. If I were to want one with good IVs, I'd wait until our friendship level is at it's highest.
And why would evolving bring me fear? Are you talking about a semi good Pokemon? If so, why would it be a problem evolving it? It you are refering to a fairly useful Pokemon but it has bad IVs, well either wait for a better one or, in case you need it in your Pokedex, evolve it now and then do it again if you get a better one. After all, with Rare candies and the Buddy system it's not as if candies are as difficult to obtain as it used to be.
As for powering something up, that isn't really a problem for me since I almost never do it. But if I did, why would that be scary?
If I need a stronger Blissey, Snorlax, Machamp or something else, then I will power it up. Sure, there might be a new Pokemon later on that is slightly better, but why are people seeing that as a huge problem?
Just because a Pokemon is demoted from the top spot to 2nd place, it doesn't make it useless.
And they will still help us for the moment. I have a couple Machamps that has served me really well and without them I wouldn't have been able to take down as many gyms as I have. But if a stronger Pokemon comes out, will I then curse over the fact that I powered them up? Hell no!
Scheduling can be tricky, but we usually know the date of the next CD well in advance. And if something is so important that you have to schedule it months in advance, then it surely is more important than Pokemon Go.
I somewhat agree with the opening of gifts, but I try to have 9 eggs so I wont have to think about getting an Alolan egg. Unless of course I want one, then I just hatch a normal egg.
And if I know I have eggs that will hatch soon, then I try to open gifts before they do.
Not being able to reach a Pokestop for a few days will make things more difficult though. But perhaps that is a good time to take a short break from the game.
