Credible speculation about next legendary after Lati twins?

I think we will see the Regis rather than a previous legendary coming back.

Mewtwo remains available through Ex-Raids, while the legendary birds and Mew are available through research.

As a mythical, Celebi is unlikely to be released through normal tier 5 raids; more likely it will be a special research reward or Ex-Raid boss.

Lugia was already brought back, so too soon for a re-re-release. The weather trio are also too recent for a re-release.

This leaves Ho-Oh and the beast trio as possible candidates for a return (poor unwanted Suicune), but the Regi trio still looks more likely. I am not familiar enough with Deoxys and Jirachi to credibly speculate on them.

Could they surprise us with an early Gen 4 release (and thus a Gen 4 legendary boss just as they did with Gen 3)?

Bonus question: Which attackers should we prepare for the Regi trio (or Jirachi/Deoxys/Gen 4 legends/beast trio if they are likely to come next)?

I am in agreement with your conclusions. It will be a Regi in June and also for each of the other summer months. But will it be fixed or rotate like the beasts or Latis?

Jirachi will be a special research quest, after Celebi. And I think Droxys too, though that one might be an ex candidate. I think ex raids will alwayd be M2.

Luckily, Machamp and Hariyama are good countersfor all the Regis. So we can start there and then just fill out our team with a couple more specific attackers once we know which we'll face first.

I think that the beast will be part of research breakthrough as the legendary birds. They may bring shiny Ho-oh for PoGo's second birthday in July. No idea how are they planning on to handle the Regis. Two months of Lati tweens is being already boring enough as for following them up with 3 months of regis...

Bonus answer, Moltres and CD charizard will be probably top counters to prepare for two of the Regis.
