Charizard Question: Do I power up the ultimate Charizard Defender?

Hi everyone,

I have these three Charizards:

2264CP, 91IV, Wing Attack Flamethrower
1065 96IV, Wing Attack Fire Blast
844IV, 100IV, Ember Flame Thrower.

So here is my Charizard situation. I love Charizard, he is one of my favourite Pokemon but I have never powered one up. I am a proponent of Gym Diversity, I want 10 different Pokemon as my top Gym Defenders (No, I don't want 5 Snorlaxes and 5 Laprases as my top Gym defenders).

I have my defensive Dragonite, Exeggutor, Vaporeon, and Poliwrath maxed out or at the CP I want them to be at. I also want to max out a defensive Rhyhorn, Venusaur, Slowbro/Slowking, Snorlax and Lapras. That leaves room for one more Pokemon to max out on Defense. Should that be Charizard? I do have other Pokemon at my disposal to throw into gyms if need be, Gyarados B/HP 3031CP, Vaporeon W/HP 2938CP, Flareon E/FB 2556CP, Snorlax ZH/B 2538CP, Rhydon MS/S 2419CP, Rhydon RS/MH 2352CP, Kingler, MS/WP 2266CP.

I have 304 Charmander Candies, 994,750 Stardust. Do I max out my Perfect defending Charizard? Or is he a lot worse than the top 10 Defenders in the game?

Waterlooyo,
Sounds like you have a plan.
You can choose to play the way you want.
Charizard will not go to high cp, and would not be able to sit in a gym near where I live, so I would not power up a defensive Charizard.
But if that works for you and makes you happy then do it.

I honestly think it doesn't matter if you have 5 lapras' and 5 snorlax in your gyms. most people use them because they have high cp, thereby deterring a lot of low level trainers and moving you to the top of the totem pole. Strong trainers won't care though. also, you can hold more than 10 gyms - you just aren't able to collect for all of them.

IMO i would pump up the 91IV, since he is almost there. But seeing as you having a plethora of dust and candy, you could go nuts with it.

I wouldn't power any of them up. Cahrizard looks cool and seems underpowered. That being said, he's just okay. There are better mons to do what he does other than look cool. Save the candy and evolve more charmanders. XP is worth more (through charmander evolutions) than powering any of those charizards up.

If you love Charizard then go for it. But sadly whatever the move set it won't be a good defender. Same for all fire mons and Rhydon.

Why wouldn't Rhydon be a good defender? He's got high enough cp to sit at the top of a level 10 gym, so by the time the attacker reaches him, his/her vaporeon will either have already fainted or not have enough health left to beat the rhydon.

With the amount of dust you've got I'd go for it. He's not going to be a great defender (but there are worse), he'll add interest for attackers and will look cool. Try and place him between two water defenders to force a change of attackers to maximise his usefulness.

Perfect World would be if I was to power him up, to put him between 2 Rock Defenders right? Like 2 Rhydons? Because someone might try to go though Vaporeon, Charizard and Vaporeon with a Jolteon right? Or is Jolteon too weak to do that?

No definitely NOT between 2 rock defenders, then 1 vaporeon would kill all 3. Next to Vaps or Dragonite is the best since fire is effective vs Grass (sometimes attacks vap) or Ice (attacks dragonite)

Oh man..I can't believe I missed that lol..great point..I think that guy is right..best to put Charizard between 2 Vaps

I'm so bummed Blastoise's max CP is so low. I've stuck to powering mines up and I'll max him out, but in your case might as well. Just power up the one you like best as an attacker. While he's a mediocre defender he's an amazing attacker still. WA+ anything is great.
