Chances of a wild Dragonite having high IVs
I'm lvl33 player and got my first Dragonite by evolving a hatched Dratini a couple days ago.
My Dragon Tamer medal is at 9 (no, I didn't forget a second number), so when I saw a Dragonite on the nearby list, but wasn't able to stop and look for it...
Well I won't say that my will to live is at an all time low, but I'm not happy about losing out on 10-20 Dratini candy = 50/100km worth of walking.
More importantly is there a way to estimate the chances of it having good IVs (82

Yes, the dragon medal is usually not easy to get to gold unless you live in a water biome where Dratini are common. Most of us don't.
Just keep plugging away. They will come to you eventually.
I've caught 2 wild Dragonite. 1st was when I was level 12, in my driveway. 6/7/2 (ads) level 4, Cp 344, with DB/DP. That was back before evolutions got more candy, so I got 3 for him. Kind of useless other than that, and as a 'Dex filler. 2nd was level 30, 12/13/5, CP in the 2900's, with DT/HB, CTM'd to DT/O, and powered up 1.5 levels to have CP 3004. Caught some Dratini, but evolved my best two, 98% and 96%, levels 33 and 36 respectively now, with DT/H and DT/O.
It's phenomenally rare to find a Dragonite in the wild. I've caught almost 16,000 mon, and got 2 of them. Certainly higher in other biomes, though.
But if you couldn't stop, you couldn't stop. Do you let the game run your life, or do you play the game for fun?
Last saturday rumor about 100% iv 29 lvl D-nite went through raid players. Happily I was one of them. My group quickly leave legendary raid & hastly follow directions to the one of many city parks... at night.
I never ever saw this many players at one spot one after another & after dark in the middle of dim woodland.
My biome is rather dragon-friendly, close to the sea & I've already encountered many.
