I only have about 150k stardust (im a spender) and yes, i do believe Gen 4 will drop sometime in September

Same here. I have about 1/2 your stardust. I did mine just to get it out of the way since I don’t really have many grass attackers and I would probably spend it on something non meta relevant like I usually do. I personally just like variety in my lineup.

I also have a perfect Magmar, but I see no point in powering it up in advance, not knowing what moves Magmortar will get.

As others have mentioned, I would suggest holding off for now until we see what moves Magmortar gets. Even then, if you have a good Moltres or Entei, Magmortar is unlikely to outperform them. At some point in gen 4, we'll also be getting Heatran as a lvl 5 raid boss. Assuming it doesn't get awful moves, it will outperform all other available fire-types.

Never any reason to power up in anticipation. Wait until you see how good Magmortar is, then decide.
