Catching Kyogre worth it?

Where I love theres a raid chat, and the predominant team in the area is the blue one (not good with names, only know im instinct) and anytime theres a kyogre raid, 20 people show up, so I dont get a damage bonus or gym control bonus, does it seem like continuing to go out for Kyogre is worth it for a slim to none chance of catching it or just do the other raids for getting good IV strong pokemon and raid rewards?

I am also Instinct and quite often get only 7 balls to throw at whatever legendary. I have found that if you are patient and learn to consistently throw great curveballs then you will catch at a higher rate. My first time around Kyogre was horrible to catch because I was a lower level and hadn't learned to throw well.(Niantic also hadn't fixed the proximity and landing curveballs so far away was difficult) I think at least one high level Kyogre is definitely worth it.

The best reward bundles still come from T5, even if you don't catch - but even tho it's frustrating to catch especially without the bonus balls, great curve+GRB you should be landing some - are you doing the lock-circle technique? Either that or keep hoping for a shiny!

The circle what?

Im aware the best ones come from t5's, but the rewards you get are correlated to the number of balls you get, so less balls, less rewards.

The lock circle technique is where you place a finger on the ball and wait for the target circle to shrink down to the size you want to hit. Lift your finger off without throwing it and it will remember this size. Then you wait until Kyogre does its attack before winding up your curve throw. You want to time the throw so that it makes contact just as the circle reappears.

By doing this you can set the circle to whatever size you're comfortable with and are more likely to get a catch bonus. By waiting until it attacks to throw your odds of hitting it outside an attack are much higher. This can take a while to master and Kyogre is the biggest bitch to actually catch so patience is the name of the game.

All of this becomes moot should you find a shiny since it will stay in as long as you hit it.

Team Smurf outnumbers the other two teams combined ALMOST everywhere, so there's that.
Now, in my experience, a few extra balls, although very desirable, make very little difference in the catching outcome.
Unless you think there are better options to raid against (there aren't), I would continue to ride along these large groups when raiding Kyogre because it is absolutely worth it and even a very crappy one will be the very best water type you could own.

Two reasons why you should keep at it:

1. Kyogre is head and shoulders above literally every other water type in game. Its only possible rival would be Palkia next gen, and they'd need to introduce a new fast water move for it to compete. Factoring in megas, Kyogre's primal form mops the floor with everything else. A 15/15/15 Vaporeon isn't gonna beat a 10/10/10 Kyogre's performance. Even if you don't have a fleet of Kyogre you should have at least one.

2. T5 raids have the highest chances of better rewards as well as more of them. If you have the chance to complete T5 raids semi-frequently you should take advantage of it. I'm sitting on over 200 rare candies and it still isn't enough for what I want to save up for.

I say: Keep at it!

Also, surely there are more Instinct players doing raids? Can't you divide into 2-3 groups on raids so that Instinct players is in one?
That's how we try to do it in my area.

In my area Instinct is probably the strongest team. Mystic is just slightly behind. Valor is by far weakest.
But if we are lucky to get perhaps 5-6 Valor players in a raid, then they usually play in one group so that they atleast get 1-2 extra balls.
Also, personally I try to let them keep the gym before a raid so they get a better chance. I've done raids where I only get 7 balls and that is no fun.

Anyway, Kyogre is a really strong Pokemon so if I were you I would keep doing the raids.
And work hard on getting better at throwing so that you can land those Excellent curve throws. A few percent better chance at catching it can be the difference between getting it and losing it.

I try to tell them to divive into groups, but they dont listen, we do 20 in one, im going to keep trying at it, but doubt they'll listen, im trying to set up an instinct only raid chat, as in the whole town, theres *MAYBE 10*

Keep at it. Kyogre is an absolute beast. And while 7 balls is a really annoying, if you catch even 1 Kyogre it's worthwhile.

And if it's that heavily weighted towards one team, ask them for help. Ask them to let you take down the gym once in a while before the raid, so that you can get the bonus balls that you literally can't get otherwise. Or ask for some to break off into a smaller group so you can have a better chance at getting the Damage bonus. Basically, ask them to help you because without their help, you're stuck at 7 damage balls.

I do ask them, and they are....not too kind about it, I dont know why they dont break into smaller groups, I heard someone say they dont want to risk not beating it, when they took it down in less than a quarter of the time with 20 people, I think its they may want to keep kyogre out of the hands of rival teams so they cant take their gyms

Yes, they could afraid to loose, but they also could want to save revives/potions. If you don't limit yourself on expenses, you'll rather do 20 raids with 11—12 balls than 10 raids with 13.

IMO it's not that fair, 1 man loose 2 extra balls vs 19 people loose 2 extra balls each. 7 balls is not that bad, I'll rather make kyogre raid with 7 balls every day than making 1—2 per week with 10—12 balls

Kyogre is the Machamp of Water types: absolutely worth getting as many as you can of it.

14 days of free passes (or more if you're into buying the premiums) should net you at least one if you can hit it consistently. Even a 10/10/10 is worth it.

I'm 7/9 since Kyogre's return (no shiny)...pretty good since I was 15/35 on its first two visits. The first weekend it came out I was 3 for 16...musta had really cold fingers!?!

The other side to this is the resource usage. Last weekend I went with 12 strong trainers (all level 32+) and we raided a Kyogre with BZ. All of us used between 8 and 11 pokemon to take it down. Yes, Blizzard Kyogre is a beast. If you're doing raids with 20 people, you're probably not using up as many revives and potions. So just do more raids. Getting 8 balls twice has a better expected value to catch (and the possibility of getting 2) than getting 12 balls once, and you'll use about the same number of revives and potions. We on team yellow have to make do with what we can get. Also, as was mentioned above, make sure you're consistently getting great curve ball hits. Getting a normal or nice isn't awful, but missing is. Do your part, and the random number gods will reward you some of the time.

I largely have had the same problem. I've failed to catch Kyogre my last 3 attempts in a row, with 9, 8, and 9 balls. I get 1 individual damage ball and 1 or 2 team damage balls as Mystic always has gym control and does the most damage.

I ALMOST took a gym before the raid today. Cleared out the first 4 pokemon AND had the last 2 down to 1 battle each when someone started golden razzing them. There were 3 of us taking it though, so we thought we could keep fighting it down and make them hit the berry limit. Then suddenly, when we were pretty sure they had hit the limit and we still had 3 min before the raid, the gym let Mystic put 4 more pokemon in to fill the gym. I was really confused - I've tried to put pokemon in a gym before that was under attack and was prevented from doing so - why did Mystic get to put in?

Anyways - I'm 0/3 on those Kyogres. I made all but 1 throw as a great curveball on each of them. I was 3/3 for the 3 before those, with 11/9/9 balls, making every throw as a great curve (caught on the 9th, 8th, and 9th throws). It seems I REALLY need every throw to actually catch Kyogre for some reason, I never get it with an early throw...

At least you get enough people to do a Kyogre raid. Just about every trainer in my town would have to show up at the same time. Good weather for Community Day, and a starting near the end is my only shot.

Well, if you dislike the fact that Mystic players like to pack legendary gym raids to the max of 20 players, you can always choose not to join them. But oh..... you can't do it on your own and need them to help you beat the raid boss.

Think of it this way. Without them, you can't even do a Legendary raid with any chance of winning. So just be happy to be able to do the T5 raids with people who actually bothers to show up, and also allow you to join them. Thats always my mentality when i join in T5 or Ex Raids, regardless of colour dominance or rewards.
