Can you chip hp from a raid boss?
I live in an area where there are lots of raids but absolutely no one to play with. Because of so many raids I have seen 2 level 4 raids and a few level 3's but I know I can't solo them. However is it possible to chip hp from them? By this I mean can I keep fighting it with the same hp that I took it down to last fight?

Nope, the HP resets every try, you have lost the pass, the potions and revives to get your team back up again and the opportunity to do that raid.
I think we are in similar situation, have seen 3 level 4 raids yesterday, 2 Charizard and a Snorlax, wasted 3 passes, one player showed in one of them, no one on the rest.
I suggest you to wait for external apps and/or websites that will track the lobby and tell you if other players are inside before spending your pass for nothing.
Actually, you won't lose your pass as long as you get back in the raid before the one hour window expires. I soloed a level 3 raid and had to battle multiple times due to timing out. If you quit the battle and revive you can get back in but will have to start all over again with the 5 minute time battle limit and a fully healed boss.
Yes I know, but the chances are pretty high that if no one showed up during the first minutes they won't show up later, this chances are like 0.000000000001% on small areas or towns, if you really want to do a raid and the game notifies you there is level 3 or 4 one nearby on a small town almost 2 hours before it starts, you go there, and see no one during the first 5 minutes, they won't show up at all. At least this is my experience those days.
