Bubblestrat useless?

With the new gym battle system, and with prestiging gone, does that mean that bubblestrat mons have no more use? I've never tried bubblestrat before, but have kept a bunch of level 1 pokemon just in case I did try it in the future. But now, I'm wondering if I can get rid of all those low level Mon to free up some space on my pokemon storage.
