People often say BS Snorlax is better than HB for both offense and defense. But after putting it to the test, I was taken aback. I was lucky enough to be blessed with 2 Snorlaxes. (91% IVs both and exactly the same IVs) and I find HB superior even in defense. I acknowledge that BS hits fast and most of the time, it will hit especially when the attacker isn't paying attention however; HB dealt more damage even if it didn't hit. Tried on 2 gyms. My L/BS in one gym and L/HB on another. Been using my one and only Dragonite to compare the damage received. Using BS is quicker though. I feel Snorlax is "faster and lighter". I wasn't able to dodge everything though I try to dodge everything. Sometimes my phone just doesn't register the swipe and processes the command as a tap. What I'm trying to say is HB deals more damage even though you dodged it. This isn't really important but I just want to share.

Something to consider is Snorlax will use at most 2 hyperbeams usually per battle. 25% damage from dodging gives you 30 damage per HB so say it lands 2 HBs you will take 60 damage. Body slam will give 40 per attack so it only takes 2 body slam attacks that are not dodged to already be beating HB.

Great point there. I've had trouble dodging bs before. So, being extra cautious and waiting for that shine is our only chance.

Also i have many times killed defender during the animation time.
Dragon pulse dragonites and hyper beam snorlaxes, just to name few.

Thanks for your time Ngurasngod. I've hatched 2 snorlax too. Bs is hard to Dodge but hb hits harder. If the attacker doesn't Dodge it's K. O. My snorlax come with zh/hb and lick/earthquake. I powered up only the first due to candie cost

Hyperbeam is easy to dodge for everyone because even if you are stuck in a charge move, the delay before HB fires (3.3secs) is long enough for you to be out of your charge move to dodge afterwards...I think I saw a post saying there was a 90 or 95% successful dodge rate against HB.

Body Slam fires after only 0.4 secs so unless you actually watch for it, you will get Body Slammed and sometimes, multiple times in a row...Especially for lower level attackers who can't delay attacking into Snorlax or they will time out.

If you see a lot of videos attacking Snorlax with Hyperbeam, everyone keeps attacking those 3.3 seconds till the near end so it's easy to continue to attack it and STILL dodge it.

There are definitely attackers that will dodge either in which case hyperbeam is superior.

BTW Hyperbeam does more damage on offense as well, it just leave you vulnerable.

First, (let us get this this out of the way) Zen Headbutt is a lot better than Lick on defense. A Snorlax with Zen Headbutt And any charge move can be a good defender. When attacking against a Zen Headbutt Snorlax, if the player gets into a rhythm of attacking and dodging Zen Headbutt, then successfully dodging Earthquake and Body Slam are both pretty easy. However, that same rhythm will often waste some time that the player could have been attacking by the time he or she realizes that Snorlax is preparing a Hyper Beam.

On the topic here, Lick doesn't deal very much damage on defense. Oftentimes players don't even bother trying to dodge Lick and just spam attack. In this regard, the faster firing Body Slam can catch those players by surprise.

A bit off topic, but Stone Edge is the one I hate, as it's a combo of the best of BS and HB. Like BS it's fast to hit (.7 seconds), often before there is any move text that the defender used it. Like HB, it packs a one shot kill punch that can dust off what's left in the attacker tank, especially if you are prestiging with 1/2 CP attackers.

Agreed. Which is also why i'm working on evolving as many Rhydons with SE as possible.
