Bite Gyarados and Espeon.

I have two questions about the updates they are doing on the pokemon pages. First, why is bite gyarados so much worse than DB one? I know that dragon is a good type, with only 2 not common weakness, and is strong against dragonite, but dark is a good type too, it have only 3 weakness, one of them is a common one with dragon, and is SE against psychic and ghost, the first one is common in gyms, shouldn't B/HP be listed as a A as well? And about Espeon, why is he only 8,5? he has a very good max cp, ok typing, and is pretty much a alakazam with a little less att, but bigger everything else. Does that mean that kazam's grade will be 8,5 or 8 when they update it or that he is really overrated? or am I missing something about espeon? it is really weird seeing a 3000 cp with 8,5 as a grade, especially when gamepress focus so much about CP.

Bite isn't that terrible, it is nearly on par with DB. DB mostly has dragon typing advantage and STAB.

Espeon is very brittle, good damage but low stamina. It's high attack inflates it's CP and make it seem better than it is. Its still a decent pokemon overall though.

When calculating CP attack has a stronger effect than stamina or defense. That is why high stamina pokemon that also have good CP are so freakishly strong (blissey, tyranitar, snorlax, rhydon...)

DB doesn't get STAB with Gyarados.

Since I never attack into Dragonite with a HydroPump Gyarados anyway, Bite is on par with DB for me. DB is just cool to have because it's legacy and quite rare.

  1. DB on Gyarados does not get STAB.
  2. It will only be super effective against Dragonite or Kingdra (both of which I would not attack with hydro pump).
  3. B will be super effective against a much broader range of psychic and ghost type pokemon, 4 of which are in the defender tier list.

Edit: 5 psychic pokemon in the defender tier list, 2 that do not resist hydro pump

Bite and DT + Hydro Pump are my two favorite movesets, and both are pretty even for me. I think DB and Bite are equal, as I don't see using DB Gyarados to attack into Dragonite as something many people are doing.

Dragon Breath/Dragon Pulse should definitely be rated higher than Bite/Dragon Pulse because the same type allows it to be used more effectively against Dragonites.

Dragon Breath/Hydro Pump and Bite/Hydro Pump should probably have the same letter rating though. Against Dragonite, any advantage you gain from the type advantage of Dragon Breath should be lost by the type disadvantage of Hydro Pump. The one advantage Dragon Breath/Hydro Pump has would be against Tyranitar, where Bite is resisted but Dragon Breath is not. Bite/Hydro Pump also has its own advantages against Espeon and Alakazam.
