The "big 20" explanation – episode 1 – Ursaring (part 1) – The last line of Pokémon above: "2753 CP, a level 40 Blissey with 0% IV"

The "big 20" is the 20 Pokémon having their 100% IV level 40 CP above 2753, which having the ability to secure a higher spot than Blissey with a same level.

Ursaring is typically like a Snorlax, a "normal" Pokémon.

It has great moves, especially Hyper Beam, as well as Close Combat, which has a less Cooldown. Its charge moves are DECENT! They can both be used in a Blissey match. Counter is a must.

It is a good counter to Blissey, without being a fighting Pokémon, thus only taking 1.00 (neutral without STAB) damage from fairy and psychic moves.

Its level 40 CP with 100% IV is 2760.

Ah, i see. This must be the reason, why everybody dismissed Snorlax and now walks Ursaring.

It has great moves, especially Hyper Beam, as well as Close Combat, which has a less Cooldown. Its quick moves are DECENT! They can both be used in a Blissey match.

Maybe there should be mentioned, that it has no complete STAB-Moveset?

It is a good counter to Blissey, without being a fighting Pokémon, thus only taking 1.00 (neutral without STAB) damage from fairy and psychic moves.

Ok, you enlighten me duffer, who still sticks to STAB-SE-Fighting moves on Machamp, just to beat blissey in time.
Stab is not needed, SE is overestimated, now i see! How stupid must i have been...

I am really looking forward to be enlightened about the other top 19 Pokemon.

This posting may contain traces of sarcasm, irony or similar stilistic figures.

First off your statement that "the "big 20" is the 20 Pokémon having their 100% IV level 40 CP above 2753, which having the ability to secure a higher spot than Blissey with a same level" is simply wrong. A Blissey at the same level and IVs of Ursaring will always have higher CP than Ursaring. Only Tyranitar, Dragonite, Snorlax, Rhydon, and Gyarados have the capacity to out-CP Blissey level for level, IV for IV.

Even if you're trying to say that a 100% perfect level 40 Ursaring can out-CP a 100% level 30 Blissey, this does not make Ursaring a good mon to power up for this purpose especially in comparison with other alternatives. Ursaring is completely an inferior choice.

For instance, what would it take to get a perfect 100% IV level 30 Ursaring to level 40?

150,000 Stardust
182 candy

Assuming you have an unlimited amount of candy why would you spend 150k dust on Ursaring?

Why not spend it on Vaporeon, which (i) also resists all of Blissey's movesets (ii) ends up with a higher CP at level 40 @3157 instead of 2760 (iii) ends up with more HP (216 vs 154 HP) and would be tankier than Ursaring?

Why not spend that dust on Machamp, which gets STAB and can finish off Blissey even faster? Higher CP and same HP as Ursaring at level 40.

Or Heracross? Or any of the other established options like Dragonite, Tyranitar..... but no, you choose Ursaring.

I mean, I just don't get it when people put forward suggestions of inferior options and trying to make it seem like they are viable.

What I was saying is: a level 40 100% IV Ursaring can cut a level 40 0% IV Blissey.

Chanseys are rare, even with the Valentines Day event.

Also that powering Blissey with anything (even Pound/Psychic) is worth it.

A zero IV Chansey is rarer than a high IV Chansey.
You can hatch a high IV, you can not hatch a zero IV.

Dude, you're missing the point -- this guy has all the odds covered.

  • He caught a 0%IV Blissey, presumably level 30
  • To power it up to level 40, he caught another 60+ Chanseys (maybe 30 with Pinap berries). All of them were also consecutively 0%IV, such is his life.
  • He did not have a single Chansey hatch where he could get a 66% IV (plus some candies) to evolve; neither did he catch any other Chansey/Blissey that might have been better powerup candidates.

I can't wait for his Explanation #19, it's gonna be real good.

WOW EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION!!

This is such a realistic scenario! A 0% level 40 Blissey! Someone found a 0% IV Blissey AND POWERED IT UP ALL THE WAY TILL LEVEL 40.

That person wisely used up all his Chansey candies to do this.... in fact, all other Chanseys that the trainer caught were also 0%IV so he had no choice but to power up his 0% Blissey instead of evolving something better or using the candies to power up another Blissey.

Congratulations dude I think you can be Trainer of the Year.

STOP PAYING ATTENTION! I DON'T HAVE A LEVEL 40 CHANSEY, EVEN TRAINER LEVEL 39! IT IS JUST A STAT FROM GAMEPRESS!

Oh boy, everyone is messing up with the point.

Maybe if you release part 2 then it will become clearer.

I assume, Part 2 Top20 CP-wise.
Something with Pinsir?

Dear 333-blue, i suggest, you leave Pinsir to a person, who really loves this pokemon. There is at least one out there. Maybe he has read this thread and writes an article about his favorite.

Well, to be fair, it is kind of unrealistic. Who in their right mind would power up a 0 iv pokemon all the way to lvl 40?
Maybe if you had selected Blissey with iv's 80% you might get a more practical list.

The more I think about it the better it gets.

One plausible way is if the catches a level 30, 0%IV Blissey and wonders what the heck to do with it.

He comes over here to Gamepress and reads, "Blissey is the best defender, for all those of you who have sub-par IVs and movesets, power it up and stop being a perfectionist!"

So he buddies it for 900+ km, and all that distance he doesn't catch or hatch a better Blissey/Chansey. So our guy has no choice but to power his 0% up from 30 to 40, where he ends up with a 2753CP Blissey. With Pound/Psychic.

900km, walking, walking, walking. It's the entire coast of Florida (on the Atlantic side), walking mile by lonely mile.

Is this a joke

If this was a joke, would the author still defend his thesis this persistently? I assume not. There has no sign of irony or fun occured yet.

My working hypothesis: this explaination is unintentionally funny.

Btw, the level cap for Pokémon is 39. You will realise this once you hit trainer level 38.

There used to be a bug, with which you could power a pkm to level 40 using power-up-button on three devices simultaniously. I do not know if it is fixed, but i already read about a snorlax with CP definitely beyond level 39.
