The "big 19" explanation – episode 16 – Machamp (part 1) – A revived Pokémon

Machamp has a great combat of base stats, but which thing made it so weak before the gen 2 release? It was its movesets. Fighting movesets are mostly weak before the gen 2 release. After the release, the best fighting move is now Dynamic Punch, and Machamp is able to learn it. With the new addition of Blissey, Counter is superior to Karate Chop.

But if you prefer efficient dodging, Karate Chop genarates energy faster and has a shorter Cooldown time. Karate Chop + Cross Chop was the best moveset before, and now it changes into a moveset that benefits good dodgers. It is possible to dodge every move with this moveset because of Cross Chop's extraordinarily short Cooldown.

Bullet Punch + Heavy Slam is a good defensive moveset, especially when the attacker send fairies to attack the defending Machamp.

Part 2 is coming soon!

Really a good start, this time.

Agreed, but i doubt, that the mediocrate damage of Cross Chop will be good enough for blissey.

Bullet Punch + Heavy Slam is a good defensive moveset, especially when the attacker send fairies to attack the defending Machamp.

This is quite irrelevant and misleading. Machamp is not a good defender, it will be crushed by alakazam or espeon, and no metal moveset will help him.
The matchup - defending machamp with metal and attacking fairy seems to be pure hypothetical and irrelevant in actual gameplay.

Where's the secret formula

I am working to change it, the old one is too unbalanced and unfair to some Pokémon.

Moves used by fighting types got a big buff with the Gen 2 release. I'm surprised that Machamp didn't make Tier 4 for decent CP and counters that are different than other top defenders. If you keep him away from Exeggcutor and Dragonite, he can add some diversity to a gym.

This is the basic issue about defenders: You cannot keep them away from anybody, the attacker choses the matchup. So, a defender is as good as it performs in its worst matchup (against a common attacker), an attacker or prestiger is as good as it performs in his best matchup (against a common defender)
With machamp, i see a really quick and bad worst matchup against alakazam or espeon.

But this should not be a hindrance for tier list, as dragonite, who is on this list, dies within 15 seconds battling with any ice-attacker too.
I agree with you, tier 4 would be adequate imo.

333-blue:
I am sure you have tons of spreadsheets and formulas pinned to your wall at this point, with all those calculations you've done to help us out.

Will you be releasing a spreadsheet at some point, complete with best moveset/wanted moveset rankings for each pokemon and the ability to sort pokemon from good to bad according to the secret formula?

I am trying to build a team of 6 pokemons to take down a lvl 10 gym in my nearby area, consisting exclusively of lvl 30-40 Blisseys with 0% IV. Judging from their low CP I misleadingly thought these were lvl 25 Blisseys, so I already tried attacking them countless times to no avail before I realized what they were.

I am hoping that episode 70 will provide some sort of conclusion around 2 months from now, so I can finally bring this gym to an end.

Anyway, it will not be fun to take down this gym.
I would hire spoofing-botter's inc to take this gym down instead. They work professional, just in time and are experienced, even with 0%-IV-Blisseys. :-)
