The "big 19" basic explanation – Espeon (week: 5-2) – Psybeam and Future Sight, for gym defense

Espeon week: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/q-a/big-19-basic-explanation-espeon-week-5-1-gengar-better-base-stats-defense-and-stamina

Espeon, many people think it is not good at gym defense, is actually decent because of its massive base attack stat and Confusion, one of the best quick moves on defense. Its good base defense stat protects its low base stamina stat, while Confusion keeping earning energy for Psybeam.

However, in the Gengar case, Espeon is unlikely to use Future Sight when facing a high level Gengar, while Psybeam itself is strong enough to kill the Gengar in one hit, it is superior to Future Sight.

Psybeam deals 88 damage to a same level Gengar, assuming both Pokémon have 100% IV.

In the versions where the dodge bug presents, please consider powering up your Gengar one level higher and dodge all moves to beat the Esepons.

Next post, is still Espeon!

No...just no.
Tyranitar and even Houndoom just melt Espeon.

I have neither :); and he is right, Gengar gets kicked by Psybeam which fires sometimes in that particular matchup as 3rd hit, right after 2 Confusions :).
For me it's funny to prestige Espeon with Murkrow, dodge just a bit, hit hit hit and charge move, 2-3 800 cp murks for a 2700 CP Espeon. No potions, quite fast, empty poke bag. Did this for several 1000s prestige few nights ago. Espeon was the bottom, Blissey was 4th so I had 3 slots for pokes for next 2 defenders. Some fun with suicide squad.

P.S. I still catch Murkrows, 1116 candies.

Murkrow takes too many pokeballs for me to bother anymore after 135 caught

I'm considering to power up an Espeon that had confusion + psybeam. I haven't made my decision yet. In my area houdoom and larvitar are non existent.

Scizor? Scyther? Pinsir?
There are many mons that can take advantage of such low stamina for a defender.

Oh yeah...and any other generalist attacker.
It is a glass cannon...and it will break too easy to be a defender for me.

I like to see variety once in a while my friend. Besides, I doubt how much worse it would be compared to gyarados. Didn't look into this.

Do it. There is just a few secs difference between Espeon defending compared to dragonite/gyarados/rhydon.

Those first two confusions are deadly. Psybeam hits like a full bar move from other mons and still does good damage if dodged. Also, like you said variety is nice. I don't know know if you've fought a high level c/pb but I immediately wanted one afterwards and walked Eevees until I got it.

Thank you for your feedback. I've fought one with my Blissey and my first reaction was very similar to yours. It did way more damage than I wanted to.

No difference to other glass-cannon-defenders: Short bloody fight. I beat it in 15 seconds, but need a potion after combat.

It is super easy to prestige against (umbreon) and a pokemon that is easy to prestige is a bad defender per definition.
