Is Bellossom a better choice than Vileplume because of buddy candies?
Casual player here. I have an Oddish that I want to evolve into a Vileplume, but I noticed that the alternative evolution, Bellossom, can gain you Oddish candies at a 1:1 rate if you use it as your buddy pokemon. Since this is quite a bit more efficient than using an Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume as your buddy, does it make sense to evolve my Oddish into a Bellossom rather than a Vileplume, knowing I can make it my buddy pokemon to get Oddish candies at a faster rate?
One other quick question: Is Clefairy a good choice for a buddy pokemon given the recent changes to the gym meta?
Thanks in advance :)

The answer to both questions is probably/maybe but it leaves me with a different question.
Are you planning on spending resources on either? Do you have no stronger or better direct counters to walk or spend on? Are you new and trying to build for gym takedowns (kind of understandable then). No offense just trying to figure out the situation to gauge the correct advice set.
Oddish nests so that's the easiest way to get candies...without bothering to do that (don't want to waste petrol), then walking a Bellossom while you go about your day casually like you think is a good idea.
A lot of people (me included) would say walking to get a dex entry isn't necessary, but if your (or anyone's) goal is to "complete" the dex sooner, walking is at least a valid goal still.
There is no end game or long term goals anymore anyways so completing your dex and being "DONE" till gen 3 is a very valid goal to have now.
RIP (all my gym defenders).
