Just got home from a short Memorial Day beach vacation which turned out to be a bountiful Pokemon weekend. Caught a ton of starters and not just the water ones, lots of Magikarp (no shiny, but still), Dratini and a variety of Pokemon I never see on the radar (lots of Doduo, of which I had only seen two before, and I even saw a wild Mareep).

I'll be going back to the beach in a month - is this the normal biome for a touristy beach town? Looking forward to it - was good for exercise too, gave me incentive to run 5K three days in a row. :)

Definitely. I just returned from the beach as well and encountered more magikarp and dratini in one day then I would see in Tennessee in a month.
I did manage to snag a shiny magikarp though..

Good luck next month!

once a week I go to a tourist beech and get similar stuff and the occasional larvitar (more common there then in my own town which has a number of stone spawns but that may be more due to the tracker being shit for anyone living with a low number of pokestops).

Yet another reason to move to Hawaii.

Never seen a Dratini since start of play in July til visiting the beach...Some mons literally NEVER spawn in some areas...

That happens in my town with Lapras, despite having two areas with water spawns and I get a good amount of Dratini, not a single Lapras spawn since day1, most players here are the only entry left on their dex of gen1.
