Battling vs Confusion-Solar Beam Exeggutor
Anyone battled a lot against this guy? I have an 87% (15atk) Eggy with C/SoB sitting at 2251CP that I'm not sure what to do with. I know C hits like a truck and I love my mons having them for defense. Psychic is rarely resisted too.
I currently use this Eggy for taking down Blisseys. I can pretty much take any Blissey down with this mon. I've also used him some for prestiging against higher Blisseys when I need to. Works really well. But I also have a ZH/Solar Beam Eggy sitting at 2000CP that I also use - just doesn't hit as hard.
I'm just about to level and could power this (C/SoB) guy up to 2681CP which isn't too bad for some gyms where I am.
Do I power this guy up as a defender or keep him at 2251CP as one of my main attackers. Part of me wants that big heavy hitter sitting in a gym. I dodge almost everything and am pretty good at it. But the heavy hitters always worry me. A bit of lag, a bad swipe and that mon is dead.
If they miss a dodge on the solar beam....

I'm a nerd and I battle TONS of gyms, and mons with Confusion are some of the only ones that worry me at all to battle. The initial volley of 3 Confusions in the first 5 seconds can wreck you if there's any lag, and because of the threat of confusion damage trainers are typically forced to dodge - lowering their overall DPS and increasing the chances of having to face a Solar Beam before Eggs faints.
Great defensive mon in my opinion. I powered up an 80% with this ms and I don't regret it.
This is exactly what I'm looking for! And I'm the same way. I battle a ton of gyms and Confusion is the only thing that really scares me. I was wondering if it is only me or what others thoughts are.
It used to only be the first 2 dodges you had to be worried about by the rhyme and reason on the first three attacks now make no sense. Almost have to just keep swiping to start the battle.
I have both and they're both great defenders. SeB is annoying as hell (like Lax with BS), the AI can throw it after just a few seconds.
SoB is theoretically easier to dodge but if you miss a dodge for any reason, you're dead (lag or dodge bad registered). Even if you dodge you'll take 25% of damage.
As a conclusion, I'd say that if you have one of those movesets with good IV, he's worth the investment.
I have a 100% Exegg (2875 CP) with that moveset and I use it very often for attacking, but I'm not above dropping it on a gym once in a while. He hits really damn hard and can take on most defenders easily, including Blissey and Snorlax.
I'd bring yours up to at least level 30, which is the break point where power-ups become much less valuable.
If with nearly 2700 cp that guy can really sit comfortably in a gym where you live, you should indeed consider powering him up for two reasons:
First, he does hit hard indeed. Second, and more importantly, since lapras' demise there are no other relevant gym defenders for which best to use a fire (or bug) pokemon. That means an attacker will either be forced to include a fire/bug attacker into his team, which will be suboptimal against the other gym defenders, or to attack your egman with a suboptimal mon. In both cases, you will weaken the opposition in addition to the pure damage inflicted by your mon.
I battled with my 88% Flareon 2300CP Fire Spin and Overheat.
Fire > Grass but..
Let me tell you what. The first one that accumulate energy for the charge move is the winner. Period.
Ember is a bit quicker I think, I have a Typhlosion with Ember and Overheat 97% 1900CP and no candy and almost no more spanwn since regional changes..
