Badge not Increasing Rank?

Hi guys.

According to Gamepress, you get 1 badge exp point for every minute you defend. You need 500exp to get to bronze rank, and ultimately gold rank is 30,000exp. Doing the math, 500exp translates to about 8.33 hours and gold rank would be about 20 days.

However, I've been guarding this gym for well over 6 days. Six days is 144 hours. And yet I'm not even bronze rank yet. What's the deal here? Is there something I'm missing?

Time defended (0m in your screenshot) and therefore exp and gym badge are only updated when your Pokémon is defeated and returns to you.

Exp is also updated if you visit the gym at some point while your mon is still there... or at least that's worked for me... I've also had it updated when I received the message that my mon needs a berry

Gym defending data is updated when your money gets kicked out or you visit the gym again to feed berries.

Camping in stagnant gyms will get you nothing and chasing a gym badge in a gym you frequently visit will be kind of pointless.

Thanks guys! I missed the part that you have to have the Pokémon knocked out. If I'm still there once 20 days hits, which is possible since it's a stagnant gym, I'll just see if I can find a Valor or Instinct guy in my area to do me a favor and knock him out.
