Badge EXP for defending

Do I really only get badge EXP when being kicked from a gym? The bar seems to be growing though my Pokemon is still there. Badge went from bronze to silver after more than 3 hours without me feeding any berries or participating in any raids.

There, they say that you only get the XP once you get kicked from the gym. Although, I also got the impression that sometimes, somehow, your progress bar grows up a little...It might be just a graphical bug. Didn't note the badge color change as you did

They might have just be conflating that the time defended achievement only ticks up when a defender is returned.

If you visit the gym that your mon is in it will upgrade the 'time defended' based on the interval between gym visits.

You get als xp for defending, my badge was not even bronze when i left a pokemon, after a week it was silver.

Does spinning get you the bonus items you should be getting for your badge level? That would be a definitive answer that it is not merely a graphical change.

yes and if the gym is your colour, you get another bonus item.
