Attacker/Defender Tier Lists after first Sinnoh Stone release and defensive rebalance?

Of course, GamePress will need more time to crunch data and update the lists, but preliminary analysis and predictions are most welcome!

Defenders:
1. Metagross is still listed in Tier 4 with its original moves. With MM, it should be Tier 3 (or even 2).
2. Of course, Tier 1.5 is now too high for Chansey, but where does it belong?
3. If Gardevoir belongs in Tier 4, then so does Togekiss. Despite more bulk (and unpredictable fast move), it is vulnerable to Raikou (and eventually Mamoswine). However, both deserve to be higher than Lanturn.
4. Should Shuckle make the list?

Attackers:
1. Golem should drop off the list with the release of Rhyperior, which looks like a candidate for Tier 3.
2. Hariyama no longer deserves a spot in tier 2, but I do not see Breloom taking that spot.
3. I would put Roserade in Tier 4, replacing (or alongside) Venusaur. Its types are simply not that useful.
4. Considering that Houndoom did not make the list and neither did any Ice attackers (except Mewtwo), I think Weavile also belongs in Tier 4 rather than Tier 3.
5. According to the Fall 2018 Stat Rebalance guide, Entei is among the big losers and Charizard is among the big winners.
6. Raikou has always been a great generalist gym attacker. Electivire may have a little bit more DPS, but significantly less bulk prevents it from overtaking Raikou in that role. Poor Zapdos.
7. Alakazam and Gengar may be far less fragile, but are they far more useful as a result?

1. Unclear yet but I agree, definitely at least tier 3.
2. Unclear but my gut feeling is between tiers 2-3. It's still bulky, just not as good as before.
3. Gardevoir never belonged into tier 4, at least for high traffic areas. Hardcores in my area have rated Gardevoir higher than Snorlax since last winter, I would say Togekiss goes to tier 2 and Gardevoir to tier 3 now.
4. No. Shuckle gets an average tankiness value, which makes it a very good gym point denial tool, but it's almost strictly worse to Wobbuffet, which also has next to non-existent decay, very low point gain for the enemy, is significantly tankier AND resists Machamp.

1. Very much agree.
2. Breloom can occasionally top Machamp in TTW, it gains a lot from the buff to its tankiness. Tier 2 seems appropriate to me if Machamp is tier 1. It's the next best option now.
3. Roserade is a bit worse than FP Venusaur as grass, but that high of a poison DPS does have some merit. Same tier as FP Venusaur, regardless of what that tier is.
4. Seems low for a pokemon with such good DPS. I'd rate Weavile stronger than either Exeggutor.
4.5. I can't understand how Exeggutors are above FP Venusaur. Their secondary types are so severely outclassed that they don't matter much for attacking.
5. Agreed.
6. Agreed.
7. Yes, they are. Especially with the numerous upcoming psychic legendaries, Gengar deserves a bump to at least tier 3.

While this kind of an exercise is fun, I think as a whole the tier lists need a complete re-evaluation.

My thoughts on defenders.

1. I could easily see MM Metagross getting bumped up to tier 2. It has good damage output (MM fires off consistently), fairly good bulk complemented by a lot of resistances, casual players often don't know what it's weak to, and its high CP lends itself towards the gym height strat.

2. I could see Chansey being demoted to tier 2, potentially tier 3. The upsides are that it still retains a ton of HP and its low CP results in a much slower rate of motivation decay, forcing opponents into multiple battles even after it's been sitting at a gym for awhile. The downsides are that it doesn't waste opponents' time as much as it used to and, as always, puts very little pressure on attackers with it's pitiful attack stat.

3. I agree that Togekiss belongs on the list, potentially even above Gardevoir. It's a solid choice to place between Normal-type tanks, but doesn't do so great holding down the fort on it's own. The Flying sub-typing gives it some less-than-optimal weaknesses, but it completely walls Machamp and all the popular Dragon generalists. In addition, Hidden Power can provide it with meaningful counter-coverage as well as an element of surprise. Perhaps Togekiss takes the place of Lanturn, Clefable, or Gardevoir herself as Togekiss basically fills the same role as Gardevoir but does it better.

4. Memes aside, Shuckle has no place on the gym defender tier list imo. It's bulk ends up being pretty mediocre as a result of it's low HP, and it barely makes a dent in attackers.

5. Slaking maybe drops to tier 4. Since it lost out on some defense, it seems to go down quickly in gyms. Its only saving grace is if it gets to fire off a Play Rough that doesn't get dodged before it faints. It's the best contributor to the gym height strat, but more often than not, it doesn't do much else.

6. I could see Melmetal making the list, if the ability to place it in gyms isn't removed. I'm not sure exactly what tier it would be, but i would say tier 3 tops. It's moves aren't the most impressive on defense (or offense for that matter), and Metagross will more often than not be the better choice of Steel-type defender since it isn't weak to Fighting.

for those lacking Frenzy Venusaur, Roserade and Tangrowth* are good additions, but I'm not swapping Venusaur for Roserade, reason is simply moveset. On Paper Roserade deals 0.2 dps higher but it may not be the case depending on wasted energy, and that difference is negligible in my opinion.

Attackers, item 7:Gengar now potentially survives up to twice(!) as long in battle and with the very high damage it can deal out with Lick or Shadow Claw, I find their general utiliry unchanged but their actual use highly improved.

The same is true of Breloom; generally speaking the low HP glass cannons are now worth using multiple copies of instead of just as a lead.

I’m not seeing one raid simulation in any condition where breloom is rated higher than machamp or hariyama.... what am I missing here?

The difference between Breloom and Machamp is fractional AND negated when you factor in the death animation etc.
