Is Articuno the best Ice Type?

Yes he is, but at the moment there's not much application for an Ice type.

That may change if Dragonite becomes a Tier 4 Raid Boss, but certainly for now, there's no real use for Articuno.

I'm really wondering how good is Articuno compared to other ice attackers: Cloyster, Lapras, Piloswine, Jynx...

Any ideas regarding stats, weaknesses and so on?

For attacking I believe so. More bulk than jinx/ cloyster and higher attack stat than Lapras. However as a defender (even tho it currently cannot defend) it's double weakness to rock makes it a bit more easier to take out than a lapras.

Use this website to look it up. I would say he is hands down the best ice attacker because he is bulky and has a better attack stat than Lapras.

No need to worry about him as a defender because Legendaries can be put in gyms.

Their rating on Icy Wind I see is correct, as boring as gyms are, I decided to fight a 2498 Lapras, I used a 1640 level 20, a couple dents into Lapras...shattered ice cube Articuno

So you used a level 20 Articuno against a level 38 Lapras? Lapras has a DOUBLE RESISTANCE to ice. That has nothing to with a bad moveset and everything to do with a horrible matchup.

I was bored;) yesterday I did a different Articuno Blizzard level 22.5 against a 2850 dragonite--It convinced me to not put anything more into an Articuno, easier to wait for Lapras candy on my next hatch

Articuno is better than Lapras if they are at the same level. They lose roughly the same percentage of health, but Articuno takes out Dragonite 2 seconds quicker.

The only one of these I put ANY effort into was Lapras. The effort I would have to put toward Articuno (or multiple Articuno is mind-boggling). For some player getting back into the game, this is their "dragonite or TT" something with a high max CP. I was more alerted about how many TTs a certain type of player may have been getting rather than these birds

It might depend on what fast move Dragonite has. Dragon Tail is neutral against both ice/water and ice/flying, whereas Steel Wing is neutral against ice/water but super effective against ice/flying.
