Are my Pokemon being paralyzed in battle?

When in battle, sometimes my Pokemon freeze and cannot attack, but the Pokemon I am battling is able to attack. If I switch Pokemon, that new Pokemon is frozen as well. This persists until all of my Pokemon are defeated. This is not the same situation as when the other Pokemon's HP will not drop below 1. In this case my ability to attack is removed immediately upon entering the gym, or after the first or second attack. Is this a server or connectivity Issue? Or are all my Pokemon being paralyzed by the Pokemon I am battling?
