Are dittos worth keeping?

I see people saying stuff about breeding pokemon which I know nothing about.

But some people saying ditto has no gender which makes it great for breeding.

Long story short, do I keep my dittos or are they garbage?

They are currently garbage.
If breeding happens, and dittos can transform into the necessary mon for breeding, then they will be useful.

Thought so.

What gen did ditto breeding come about?

Trying to determine if it worth holding onto the 10 dittos in my inventory or say forget it

I don't know the pokemon universe at all, this game is my intro. I had heard of Pikachu and Squirtle but that was it.
From what I read on this site, breeding is not Gen thing, it is something that Niantic will either roll out or not.

The very first Gen, Breeding isn't really Gen-specific. I would keep them, at least three of them. 10 may be too much even for me haha.

BREEDING was introduced in gen 2. The Pokesitters were in gen 1 but could level your pokemon 1 at a time. Gen 2 they started caring for two at a time, and introduced eggs. Ironically dittos could be found right outside the gen 2 sitters.

Could you just use one Ditto for breeding multiple mons or is it a monogamous thing? Also does the Ditto's iv matter?

Ditto is really promiscuous, can have many breeding partners. Ditto's IVs do matter, but who knows how it will be implemented in Go. They may just use RNG for the baby pokemon, or only good IVs like with hatches.

In the main series, you can use the same Ditto again and again (jokes are avaible).
And yes, Ditto's IVs are part of the breeding mechanics, so a perfect one is one of the more valuable things, because a chain of breedings (with some other things and items in consideration), ends in a perfect specimen.

Of course, we don't know how will be breeding in Pokemon Go, even if will see it... but if you see a +90% Ditto... it doesn't occupy a lot of room. XD

I keep dittos with high IV's - it sounds like the IV's used in breeding do matter (and also, for any imaginable use of ditto, they probably also matter), and recycle ones with crap IV's.Of course, I've yet to catch a ditto with stats in either of the top two bins.

You will likely never need an overabundance of Dittos. I have kept me highest level and highest IV. The rest went to the professor.

Ditto might be good for dueling in the future?

Doh! I have sent almost all of my Dittos to the trainer. Didn't even check for IV's since he seemed useless.

ive used mine to battle on a few occasions they transform into what they fight sadly they keep their low stats but I'm good at dodging even with my highest only having 49 hp and lov IV ive had a few wins with it

The way things tend to run, I'd guess that Ditto is too powerful of a wild card. I'd guess they won't allow Ditto to cross breed and you'll have to find a natural pair.
I'll be keeping a couple... hoping I'm wrong.

This will probably be irrelevant after gym rework in a week or 2, but more details - how would you make that work?
