Arcanine worth powering up?

I have an 84% Arcanine with Fire Fang/Flamethrower, current CP 1664. Is this worth powering up? Growlithe aren't exactly easy to come by in my area and I don't foresee getting another Arcanine anytime soon. I got lucky with 5k hatches during the Halloween event which is the only reason I was able to get this one. I know Fire Blast is better, but I'm not sure by how much, and I'm not sure if Flamethrower is close enough to FB to be worth it for those that prefer faster moves for dodging. Thanks in advance.

The quick move is the most important, as that is the move you'll spend most time using during combat. Fire Fang is a high DPS quick move.
Flamethrower deals less damage than Fire Blast, that's true. But not much less. And it has better flexibility.
I'd power up an Arcanine with Fang/Thrower any day.
I have a FF/F Arcanine I've powered up to 30 and I like him quite a lot - he's super useful for dealing with any grass defenders, plus he is my go-to for taking out Lapras. Growlithes are also rare around here, but at 3 km per candy as a buddy, it doesn't take too long to get enough candy to power him up.
FWIW, I also prefer the flexibility of two bar charged attacks compared to one bar charged attacks; yes, they do a bit less damage overall, but they make dodging easier and you don't run into the situation of overdamaging opponents (i.e., using fire blast on a defender that's at 15% HP).
Do you need another Fire Defender or Attacker? Depending on your level Growlithes spawn in the 900's evolving into the 2200s easy, and even with medicore stat's they can do well in gyms defending, no bulldoze. For attack as long as you find one with fire fang, fireblast you wont ever have trouble with grass types. Flamethrower is the best defensive moveset for Arcanine, and can do well attacking as well. It all depends on what you want, attacking or defensive.
I don't particularly need another defender. I live in a relatively rural area and gyms are hard to come by. At most, I hold 3 gyms at a time and I have better defenders. It's also a high-grass area so I see a lot of Exeggutors.
I do have a decent Flareon with Ember/Fire Blast. Is this a decent alternative if I were to wait on an Arcanine with FB, or is the Arcanine with Flamethrower still better?
