For anyone with the new nearby feature...
Just received the new nearby feature, but I've discovered that's it's somewhat awkward, as it favors showing pokemon further away from me (depending on the pokemon and stop locations) as opposed to the ones closer to me.
It doubles up pokemon on my nearby if there's multiple of the same species, making less room for other species around me. Let's say I'm near a known dratini spawn spot, but it doubles up on so many other pokemon (like psyduck) that it leaves no room for a variety of species. Does anyone know if theres a workaround to this and/or if we know how the nearby and sightings are organized and prioritized? A prime example is right now I'm looking at my nearby, there's 3 pokemon on my sightings (not associated with a stop) and 3 pidgeotto on my nearby, and the remaining 3 nearby all different species. There is no more room for any other pokemon on my list. None of these pokemon are close enough to me to pop up, but a pidgeot pops up for me to catch, which isn't on either my nearby or sightings list.what if that was a lapras, but it wasnt close enough to pop up, but it didn't show up on my list either? Then I wouldn't even know it was there and could miss it altogether. I really would hate to miss the rarer species just because my nearby wanted to show me 2 or 3 psyduck locations instead. any help or explanation would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm seeing something similar. One possibility is that the nearby feature only works at certain stops (which in my case are about a 10 min walk). Or they may intentionally place them further away. Their hope is that people will be more likely to keep the game turned on during the day. If you know the exact spot of a Pokemon, you are more likely to go out and get it.
I'm going to try it in a different location on Monday and see if the same thing happens.
I just tried the new feature in Seattle, and it is much better when there are a lot of stops around. My nearby feature is showing 6 Pokémons all the time and tells you their nearly exact location. I found a Growlithe and Magmar today using the feature. So, my take is that it is an improvement in cities with lots of stops but probably neutral to worse (because you don't see as many "Sightings") in the burbs.
