Is Anyone Actually Excited For This Community Event?
I mean Pikachu with Surf? What will anyone even use that for? not like you can trade it. If Niantic said there would be a chance to catch Clefable with a Fair Fast Move that might interest me but I will be sitting this one out yet again. I just seems to me that Niantic enjoys watching its game die. What are your thoughts?

I am, but not because of the Pikachu. This will attract all local (rural/small town) players and we can hopefully get them on Discord or something similar to coordinate legendary raids. I suspect that's why Niantic is doing this. If so, I have hope.
P.S. I play in the city, too, which is why I finally have legendaries. But it's the rural players who really need this event.
TL;DR - this a rant and no this “event” does not excite me

From a more condescending point of view:
- It’s been 18+ months since the game released
- the only new addition that has been made to allow players to interact with the game has been raids (the AR+ mode as well as additional features have all been expansions of existing features)
- a quick google search suggests Niantic is worth $3.65 billion
- and after 18 months, there is still no way for players to interact directly with each other
From those thoughts, this does not excite me. All this is doing is allowing people to meet up and communicate by the same means by which we have since July 2016. Yes, the bonuses are appreciated, but it’s just another recycled means of temporarily getting a portion of players playing again except to a for a shorter period of time.
I include their net worth and the time the game has been out, due to an expectation that they would leverage their resources to implement NEW features.
(didn't downvote)
I see what you are saying in regards to niantic's probability of adding some form of in-game communication
I am just not excited from these events because they don't really *change* the way the game is played and interacted with. I can see them stimulating more interaction between players by increasing the probability that players will happen to run into each other (with such a short period, i guess it puts pressure on people to play during this time, compared to previous events which would span over days),
I would be excited if a new feature was implemented, that was not an expansion of a previous feature. Raids did that, and something with direct player-to-player interaction would make me excited
