Any use of defenders? Or the gyms at all?
The Pokemon games and anime have always been about becoming the very best that no one ever was. But after the gym rework, this seems to have gone for a toss. In my area, my team made a lot of effort to capture gyms and maintain them under our control. Other team players stopped hitting gyms (and may be playing altogether). Since the rework arrived, not a single pokemon in my area has been kicked out, so no one has earned any coins. We have even stopped feeding berries in the hope someone may go and knock out our gym, but to no avail. Now, we plan to put junk in the gyms the next time (if our pokemon ever come out) so that we can get something hopefully. I see no use of defenders like Blissey and Snorlax.
Now we can't hatch multiple eggs simultaneously unless we pay and can't get raid passes either. What have we done wrong? Is the game not supposed to prove your strength with your strongest pokemon? What is the use of having powerful pokemon at all? No use for defense, for raids we play as a group so no sense in more powerful attackers. Now we can't battle in gyms even for fun (earlier we could at least battle our own gyms for fun).
Everything seems hollow. The very ideology has changed. I am demotivated (the motivation system is spoofer-friendly too unfortunately). If someone asked me before the update if I would quit the game if the update was bad, I would laugh as it being impossible. It seems the once seemingly impossible thing may happen...

They must change a lot. Qtherwise more and more players will lose their motivation or don't want to pay for useless virtual mons.
The only reason to play would be paying for raid passes and get the mon, the TMs for the wanted moveset and the universal candy. That's it. No need for catching, breeding, evolving or selecting IV.
I would make a suggestion that if someone does take your gym leave them in long enough to get a good collect before you retake it.
I took a gym out last night after 2 days and the morons took it back after an hour. So I will leave them for a week before doing it again.
but I think you'll start seeing lots of people double account.
I agree. This gym system is shit. I had 10 stable gyms. That earned me 100 coins everyday, now I have other teams having taken over 3 gyms already. I go to the gym to place my mon in a free spot. Group of mystic Players comes along, tears down the gym and prevents me from beating them by feeding berries. It would take 20 min to beat the gym, but with them waiting I'm screwed. Gave up and left. I have never been so demotivated in this game before.
Wow. The difference between regions is stunning. Around here, there's more gym action, lots of people feeding berries, and I'm cautiously optimistic. I think the top tier players will end up with fewer coins from gyms overall, but a stable 100 coins/day was absurd anyway. That said, today since raids were opened to most everyone, it seems like the players are focusing on that instead of battling for gyms. That'll probably calm down a bit once the novelty wears off.
Clearly, this change was done to allow more casuals to play...
They will want to do raids, thereby, buying raid passes if they see a large group and a Tyranitar...
Defenders are pretty useless now, so are territories and gyms...mostly, the only reason to take over a gym is to get the 2 or 3 (forget) extra balls to catch the raid boss...
I've ignored claiming all my old gyms now and certainly, don't plan to go to remote ones that I used to love...
No rival will bother to ever knock you out since you have to climb a mountain, etc...
