Any need to power up a defensive pokemon?

With the recent gym changes I do not see a point in leveling up defensive moved pokemon.

Before there was an incentive to have pokemon with defensive move sets. Although if someone wanted to take down a level 10 gym they could do it, the more defensive mons in the gym, the more annoying/costly and time consuming it was to bring the gym down.

Now it is so easy to bring down gyms so there really is no incentive to have defensive mons anymore. No level 10 gym can lost long anymore. All it takes is for someone to decide it wants to take down the gym and spend some time doing it. And with the recent changes, it doesn't require much time or resources anymore.

Seems it would be smarter to just catch high cp mons and evolve them without worrying about IV or moveset and save your dust. I do not see the recent changes staying for too long though.

I think they are just trying to keep the casual player base who came back for the Halloween event. It's not a dumb move on their part as long as it's not permanent. It may get some casual players more competitive.

Actually it isn't like that.
It's true that taking down a lvl 10 gym is easy but it still takes time so a strong lvl 10 will outlast a lvl 6-7 full of shitty moveset dragonites.
The thing is, with this update Niantic told us that it's more important to coordinate with your team than to have the strongest pokemons. Now the only thing that is missing is a way to actually talk to eachother in the app :D

We just builded level 10 gym and then some assholes with gps hacks beated it down.

I got them on video but i doubt niantic rlly does anything for them.
