(Answered) Leaving a raid to heal?

Does anyone know whether or not leaving a raid to heal your Pokémon before you faint (and then rejoining) saves your damage? Or do you lose all your damage just for leaving the battle no matter what?

I was trying to find a solution to the problem for that thread. I started this before dr thalamus posted. And is it confirmed or is he speculating?

It does not save your damage but you restart the damage counter at a more optimal point.
