Another question about Snorlax
Just caught a 1417 CP Snorlax (A12 D15 S15). Sadly came with ZH/EQ. Should I power it up?
I already have a Lick/BS and a ZH/HB Snorlax, both lvl 30 (IV around 75%).
PS: I only have 3 candies.
Thanks in advance

Your new mon is a great catch!
Ultimately your new one will most likely will be your highest CP snorlax, it will have a chance of sitting higher in gyms.
movesets of defending mons only make me concentrate better when I time my dodge, but have never stopped me from taking down a gym.
movesets on my attacking mons mean more to me because some are just more fun to attack with.
If you make a snorlax your walking buddy, you'll have plenty of candy.
Since a lot of people is powering up rhydon to kill snorlax, EQ is not a bad moveset, it fits perfectly to the situation!
A lot of people also use Arcanine to kill snorlax fast.
EQ is also dealing super effective damage to fire pokemon.
I don't understand why people tell you this is a bad moveset.
BS is used more often, and HB has the stab.
But EQ has the super effective thing on 2 pokemon that people often use...
It's not an easy decision, but to me, this one can be powered up ^_^
Attacking is easy enough that even with BS or HB you'd still take down that Snorlax (and the whole gym) with plenty of HP to spare that the moveset didn't really make a difference.
Sure it's nice taking a little less damage when attacking, but when is it ever the difference between being able to take down a gym or not?
EQ doesn't compete with BS or HB, but nothing does really. It's a bit like HB on Dragonite. Neither are bad moves, just not as good compared to the other 2 STAB moves.
HB Dragonites are still usable, so are EQ Snorlaxes.
Thank you for your replies.
Candies are not the problem, I could walk with it (chansey goes first :D ) and get all the candies in one month or two (as I did with the other two snorlax).
I think I will keep the snorlax as it is (can use it for prestiging), and if I decide to make it my buddy again and get all the candies needed (need 86), I'll see what I do.
Too bad it came with Earthquake, but it's only 30-40 CP more at level 30, so I prefer moveset for now :)
Are your level 30 Snorlax already powered up to the max for your level? Still, i agree with the others - get walking and save up your candy/dust until you can bring this one up to your max. Moveset is fine, don't obsess about it (my Lick/EQ does fine in gyms around me - personally I find HB the easiest to dodge and perhaps over-rated as a defensive move)
Once you have enough candies to power it up to where you want it (86 candies to get it to 30 from it's current level of 15), if you haven't found a better Snorlax by then, I would say that it's still worth powering.
Even though it does have the second worst defending moveset for a Snorlax, it's still going to be a better defender than most other Pokemon in the game with their best movesets. Earthquake isn't a bad move, it's just not as good in comparison to STAB Body Slam or STAB Hyper Beam. Icy Wind, now that's a bad move.
Since you already have a Snorlax with the best attacking moveset, you're probably just going to dump this one in gyms and never use it, so having a suboptimal moveset doesn't matter as much in my opinion, compared to a Pokemon that you might place in gyms as well as use for attacking, for example a Vaporeon or Gyarados.
Any Snorlax regardless of moveset will deter people from attacking, and I think that's the best way to defend gyms - just make it take as long as possible, so that most people would rather find another gym that's quicker to take down.
If someone wants a gym taken down, they'll take it down anyway even if all 10 defenders have their best movesets. It's not like they're going to quit half way through if your Snorlax had BS or HB instead of EQ.
This is a no brainer powerup IMO...Ultimately, if people want to tear down a level 10 gym, you could be Mewtwo and they would still tear it down.
CP is all that matters IMO and having Snorlax, with whatever moveset as someone else mentioned won't matter much. Usually, higher level people (35+) take down level 10 gyms FAST since it still takes low level folks an hour to do.
You're better off powering this one up and putting it in a gym eventually. There are PLENTY of twister Gyarados in gyms currently with high CP and Snorlax easily trumps that...
I'm planning to eventually walk with a level 2 Chansey if Blissey becomes super strong and as you say, if you walk enough, the candies will come eventually...
ZH/EQ essentially makes it a tier 2 defender and attacker. People power up tier 2 defenders all the time. The only reason not to power it up is if you had one with a better defensive move set that wasn't maxed.
If you can anticipate what type an attacker might be using based on gym composition, you can find spot where EQ will be helpful, despite lack of STAB.
