Another annoying power up question

So I just recently got myself a good lv30 Kyogre and I just TMed another one to Hydro Pump. Should I bother powering him to 30 giving that water types are usually useful for raids and he’s the undeniabe best water type? I know there are future Pokémon to invest into but I have the dust and candy now to do so. I think it would be a safer choice then trying for a TS+TB Zapdos I’m guessing. Sadly the best one that I have is like 13-13-12 or something

The way Niantic is releasing legendaries with incremental updates to themselves, I wouldn't invest a bit of dust into Kyogre until 1. It gets Origin Pulse and/or 2. You need a good Water attacker for something that Gary won't cut.

Palkia cannot learn any current water type fast moves, so unless that add new water fast moves, kyogre will still be the best water type, as well as we dont even know if they will add origin pulse, Lugia and ho-oh dont have their signature moves, neither do latios, latias or mewtwo, so it doesnt seem likely that they will even add origin pulse

That and people also have a problem with understanding this, even if a pokemon is released later that is better, it doesnt mean you wasted dust or candy so long as you were able to get something of value greater than what you could have gotten without powering it.up, as well as being able to do more raids, getting better rewards (ie TM's, GRB and RC) and potentially earn more candies than you lost, a sort of return on investment in both new pokemon (like high IV tyranitar, rhydon/ etc) with their candy as well as rare candy, everything you got just doesnt disappear

You'll notice I suggested the OP wait until a good Water attacker is needed.

YOU may not think such an eclipsed investment is wasted, but your perspective isn't an objective absolute. But thanks for the condescension anyway.

You know what we said about Kyogre before Gen 3? "It can't learny any current water type fast moves".

You can bet they will add OP Kyogre and other signature moves without the ability to TM later because it means stupid amounts of revenue for Niantic.

Mahzza responded quite succinctly with a fairly open and sensible response, not sure why you needed to respond in this tone?

I have invested in a 98% Kyogre, but I wanted it at the time as a water attacker. I will slightly regret the dust investment when the inevitable new Kyogre comes with better moves, but at least I got use out of it. The original post is about doing it now and we don't really need a water attacker right now, so above advice to hold off, is quite prudent.

The lesson we've all learned (mostly the hard way) from Niantic's latest changes and additions is this:

Don't invest stardust, rare candy, or non-rare candy that's difficult to get into any Pokemon until you need it for something.

I got a bunch of pretty good Zapdos at the Raid day last Saturday (it was raining here, hit 13, caught 12, 3 91%, 5 shiny (no overlap, though). And I was pretty excited about the event. Now I have 137 Zapdos candy. Further, I have zero Raikou (didn't have a raid group until after it was done).

So you'd think I'd be chomping at the bit to power up those TS/TB Zappys. But I won't, until there's a need for them. Thought about TMing my Metagross to double steel moves for Kirlia, but Mewtwo with Shadow Ball has that well covered. What's the next thing I'm powering up? 96% Machamp, and my most recent Mewtwo, both slowly. If we get another surprise thing happening, I could power something up for that fast (like they announce Groudon is back for three days only sometime). We expect Regirock is after Registeel, and then after that, who knows. But if it's good, I'll power up something for that.

Meantime, I'm getting ready to power up a lot of things, but not doin it yet. Kirlia raids for 10 candy (20 while double candy week is still on), walking Togepi in the hope that Togekiss is really strong, considering powering up another Smack Down Ttar, as soon as I can TM it to Stone Edge (Crunch to Fire Blast so far, leery of doing the dance back and forth between them). It will be useful against Registeel, Moltres, and many others.

Be reactive, don't invest your dust in something now to find that you need it for something else later and don't have it.

I like the points that were addressed. I think I might power him up anyways to help with Donphan and Flareon solos. My main thing is even with Origin Pulse it wouldn’t make him much better, at least enough to break the game. If he learned Hydro Cannon or something then maybe. I do have an itch to power Groudon but with Precipipe Blades WOULD be much better than crappy Earthquake.

I think I’ll always try to find the right counters and work towards them for whatever need there is but I also like trying things outside of the box. At the end of the day it’s a game that I enjoy but if I’m not prepared for something that I want to get or beat then that’s something I’ll just have to eat. As much as I try for legit teams against anything that I raid or whatever I also like to enjoy it and not stress about the fact that a Pokémon I powered up is now “outclassed” by itself by 0.9 more DPS. Certain community days mainly being Venusaur have made Pokémon viable or even among the top but worrying about every possible move that “could” make a Pokémon less useful is a lot of mental work for me. Newer Pokémon will come out that will outclass at least half of the current meta with many Gen 4 and Gen 5

All of them before zapdos or to be more exact the invetible future where precpice blades and origin pulse will be made un-tmable are FREE. You DO NOT need money to build 6 lv40 smack down tyranitars or frenzy plant venusaurs. You need money for 5 or 6 hydro pump kyogres and double if you have origin pulse ones.

You will quit the game by the point Origin Pulse Kyogre is released so why do you bother? Don't invest anything past this point.

I don’t know what suggests that I will quit before that happens, what in either of my posts suggest that? I never said anything about not playing and have put in a lot of time into it. Yeah I said it’s just a game but so was Halo, Guitar Hero and CoD. I still spent years and countless hours into it because I enjoyed it

Debates about superior moves being TM-locked aside, there's only one question you need to ask yourself right now: Do you have an immediate need for it? Do you plan to attempt Flareon and Donphan solos, or do you need something to handle A-Marowak? Will you get use out of it before Origin Pulse is released? If not then save the dust.
