Oh Ampharos, a lots changed since you were last up for an event move.

Since meteor mash metagross has come out and been crushing gyms lately, a lot of gyms seems to be geared more towards resisting steel than resisting fighting. Of course a lot those water types have the glaring weakness of electric. No, im not talking about ampharos being an attacker, but rather a defender. There's 4 types that resist steel; steel itself, water fire and electric. A lot of times a milotic, gyarados or some other water type will force a metagross out, similar to gardevoir's use agaisnt machamp, and force out likely an electric type to deal with it. Now electric resist steel, but it also resists itself, slowing any raikou or Electivire fresh off a gyarados or milotic. Im wondering, how well would ampharos be in gym line ups now? It does have some of the desirable defender qualities, its only weak to ground, a type known for bad moves and does have decent bulk to back that up, plus dragon pulse is a 2 bar and access to the punishing fast move voltswitch.

It was always a decent defender and still is.

It's a decent defender with VS/DP, as VS is one of the strongest fast moves and DP will hit most attackers for neutral damage. Its especially nice when placed after a water-type. Not only does it resist other electric-types (as you mentioned), but it also resists grass-types, meaning it has just about all the bases covered if the attacker was using specialists to take out the water Mon before Ampharos.

That said, I don't see Ampharos making any waves in the gym meta.
