Alternate execution of the recent community day... thoughts?

So I was thinking about how Niantic could have executed this community day differently. I was really excited about this community day since I had missed out on quite a few, but as it rolled around I couldn't see most of the pokemon I wanted to catch (I guess cause it was raining, giving me an overabundance of squirtles, mareep and pikachu).

So I was thinking: could they have done a 12 days of christmas kind of thing where all the spawn rate and move availability is extended for one pokemon a day for 11 days (and maybe at they the 12th day they released a new pokemon)? As trying to fit 11 community days worth into 3 just didn't work as well in my opinion (though the concept was pretty awesome).

Thoughts?

In 2016 to mid 2017 it was much more common for players to grind for candy+dust “after hours”. 9pm to 12am+. Raids and the lessening importance of hatching eggs (mid-2017 to early 2018) helped to dampen that pavement pounding fervor. This community weekend helped rekindle a lot of that extra grinding/solo playing. ***Here it was sunny/clear for 58/58 hours. Had to be the most sought after weather conditions bc larvitar and 4 starters were boosted.

Meanwhile we had a mix of cloudy (probably 50 hours) and fog (the other 8).

I.e. only bulbasaur boosted, or nothing at all.

eh, w/e - we had 2 hours of snow and 1 of wind for the original beldum day - probably the most important.

(I'd actually argue Wind would have been preferable for both Beldum and Dratini - and we'd had wind a LOT but then the whole weekend it was nowhere to be found).

It was cloudy where I was, which for me was good because I wanted more Bulbasaur because o only evolved one, but what was the real kicker (in the bad way) was the event was book ended by windy weather, and we didnt get clear weather until the last ~5 hours (for me the event ended at 2 am, December 3rd)

Wasnt too terrible, got 800+ candy for the three pseudo legendaries, and tons of them to trade for distance later for even more.

Personally I do agree they could have done things better, one pokemon being boosted more than the others for a day could be something they do in the future (like all the spawns are still boosted, but one boosted more so) but that could get out of hand with all the candy we'd be accumulating. most I know got several hundred to a few thousand between pinabs and trades. I might be in the minority on this, bu I do somewhat like not being able to max a pokemon the second I get it, I have more of an attachment and accomplishment when I earn a lot of those candies from walking with a buddy.

The biggest gripe about the CWE for me was the weather - cold, rainy, and windy, and that's outside of Niantic's control.

Had they done a 12 days of Christmas sort of thing you'd have people complaining about working during [literally any given Pokemon]'s day, or not being able to participate in it for one reason or the other. A wide 58 hours like what they did meant pretty much everybody found at least *some time* to get out and find what they needed.

I had a bit of clear weather and then a mix of cloudy and rainy. With actual rain most of the time, making it quite uncomfortable. Of course the boosted pokémon were more frequent (Larvitar not that much though even when clear), but I did see the other ones with a spawn frequency which seemed fairly even to me. I helped my luck by using the radar a lot and going wherever it told me there was a Larvitar or a Beldum (I live in a medium sized city but the city center regroups like 15-20 pokestops within reasonable walking distance, maybe 5 min of walking between two extremes). I played less than 3 hours in the whole week-end.

So I'm really surprised you actually didn't see any spawn of some of the featured pokémon. Were they really absolutely non-existent, or do you mean you just met very few of them? Is it possible that you hunted in the middle of a nest which heavily favored some species spawns over others?

In my opinion the way it was done was gone and better than a 11 days period with 1 day for each featured pokémon. But that's because it "worked" as expected for me. I didn't have the feeling it was "unfair".
