Alakazam solo

It's been a long time since I've tried challenging T3 solo raids. But with Alakazam's return to raids, I'll be giving it a go again.

This is my current anti-psychic team:
1: Mewtwo PC/SB L35 CP 3624 12/15/11
2: Mewtwo PC/SB L23 CP 2573 13/11/15
3: Gengar SC/SB L35.5 CP 2386 12/11/14
4: Ttar B/Cr L40 CP 3647 14/15/14
5: Ttar B/Cr L35 CP 3386 15/14/12
6: Ttar B/Cr L32 CP 3188 14/08/15
7: Ttar B/Cr L30 CP 3109 15/14/11

I think it's pretty obvious that the low level Mewtwo has no place in my team without being powered up to at least L30. My team now (less the low level Mewtwo) should be able to beat the PC movesets as it is.

About 6 months ago, I did my first (and only) Alakazam solo, on second attempt. It was PC/FB, and went down right to the dot. The only difference in the team was, the L35 Ttar was L30 then.

Now, I'm planning to try soloing a Confusion Alakazam. I will definitely be powering up the second Mewtwo to at least L35 for several reasons. It will definitely help a lot against C/FB.

Right now, I have 150k dust, more than enough Gastly candy, 85 Larvitar candy, and 0 Mewtwo candy or rare candy (but soon Mewtwo candy won't be a problem).

Should I max the L35 Ttar, Gengar, or power up the Mewtwos? If yes, what level?

Mewtwo to level 26.5; the final Psycho Cut breakpoint (4 damage)
Preferably to level 32.5; Mewtwo will be able to survive 8 weather boosted Confusions and 2 dodged Focus Blasts, leaving 1 HP left.

That's the wrong way to think about it. When every one of those psycho cuts (one every 0.6 seconds) is dealing 4 damage instead of 3, it makes a huge difference.

Look at these times to win against Alakazam with unknown moveset for a perfect 15/15/15 Mewtwo attacker:

L25: 193.5 seconds
L30: 166.5
L35: 161.4

Why is there a huge decrease in the time to win from L25 to L30, but not from L30 to L35? It's because L25 is below the breakpoint, and PC is only doing 3 damage, whereas it is doing 4 damage at both L30 and L35.

Arguably, the less effective the quick move, the more important the breakpoint, because the extra damage will have a greater percentage increase on the TDO.

I soloed one yesterday which had C/SB. It took me three tries, and I only succeeded by going with all Ttars. So Alakazam move set is critical. I have two maxed Mewtwos with C/SB, I suppose they would have been more effective had I dodged. But hard to dodge with Confusion.

Because both fast moves are NVE, so their DPS has less impact on overall DPS (including the charged move) than their EPS?

Psycho Cut + Shadow Ball is ideal for situations where Ghost is Super Effective and Psychic is not, like Alakazam. This allows you to charge up and fire off multiple Shadow Balls quicker, making Mewtwo one of the highest DPS Ghost attackers in the game.

Agreed. I just tried a C/SB. Somehow forgot that I recently evolved a fourth B/C Ttar. Gengar, Mewtwo and Scizor are pretty crappy against that move set. 6 Ttars can take it down with no problem.

I'd power up the L35 Ttar soon, and power up the second Mewtwo to the mid 30's once Mewtwo raids start (so you use raid candy, not Rare Candy).

Additionally, the Ttar will be useful in Mewtwo raids, so power it up.

For PC Zam, your squad is good enough. Doesnt even need mewtwo to beat it if you have another Gengar with SC preferably
For Confusion Zam, unless you can make sure your Gengar manage to fire 2 shadow ball, it is a hit or miss using Gengar
Safe bet is power up 2nd PC/SB Mewtwo to same level as your 1st Mewtwo, and your last TTar to lv 32 to give a little bit of oomph
Dodge (yes DODGE) every Zam Charge move when using Gengar and Mewtwo, and straight no dodging with TTar unless it is Focus Blast. You can pretty much dodge once to avoid OHKO. I never experience dodge bug doing solo, but beware of double hit, when your next mons also, get hit, ussualy take half of it health, it happen sometimes
Pay attention especially at the time when the Zam reach yellow, so you can adjust your strategy accordingly...
Sometimes you need to power up on the spot if you failed at 1st try, but there is just a little bit of health left on the Zam.

You won't gain much by powering up the T-tars or the Gengar, and it will be expensive. The biggest thing you can do right now is get the Mewtwo past the breakpoint at L26.5, and beyond that point, you will still get more benefit by powering up the lesser Mewtwo, at least to L30, than by powering up any of the others (including the higher level Mewtwo).

And I guarantee that if you dodge every 'Zam charge move with Gengar and Mewtwo, as the guy above me is recommending, you will fail. But try it, and see for yourself.

One more thing, I don't think you can beat C/FB, but if you power up the second Mewtwo, and add a couple of Gengars (even with hex) in place of two of the T-tars, you might have a shot.

The guy you are talking about is me, and i've done it
Just because you use one method, doesnt mean another way is useless..
Here is from my old chanel, unique 6 pokemon, non legendary done in dec 2017. It is - psycho cut - focusblast the easier moveset, but still can be done with dodging using my Gengar and Alakazam PC/SB. Those two alone can get Zam hp to yellow

Regarding that video, you only dodged a total of three times, and you barely won, with only 2 seconds remaining, despite using a high DPS team. And you were only on your fourth pokemon at the end, meaning that you didn't need to dodge to survive, and probably would have won more quickly with fewer dodges.

The OP's team includes two Mewtwos and a Gengar, and if he were to dodge every charge move, he would never beat the clock, because Mewtwo's bulk would mean he would survive through several more charge moves, thus dodging several more times.

The other day, I posted about beating PC/FB Alakazam with a no-dodge strategy, and I won with 18 seconds left. I used two Mewtwos (a PC/SB and a C/SB) and three Gengars (one SC/SB, two H/SB), and the third Gengar barely had a scratch on it when the battle ended.

So, I maintain my view that advising him to dodge every charge move with the Mewtwos and Gengar is poor advice. Dodging hurts DPS too much, and more than 2-3 dodges will cause him to time out.

Yes i am taking a hit on last charge move so my next counter doesnt have to take a charge move first
No dodging using my setup with pretty much glass cannon upfront will fainted all the counter including tyranitar because of the focusblast
My point is it can be done with that setup, so using mewtwo will help alot, and the OP asking how to win it, not a time attack mode

Here is my recent video in my new channel, still using 6 unique pokemon no legendaries, PC-FS Alakazam, no dodging this time, exxept one time with tyranitar because of my instinct to dodge..

Let me restate my point: the OP has two Mewtwos and a Gengar, and you advised him to dodge every Alakazam charge move with those pokemon. I defeated PC/FB Alakazam a few days ago with no dodging, with 18 seconds left, using those same pokemon (Mewtwo, Gengar, Mewtwo, Gengar, Gengar. PC/SB 'Zam in the #6 slot was never used). If I had dodged every charge move with the Mewtwos and even just one of the Gengars, I would have dodged five or six times, and would have probably timed out because of the lost DPS.

I would like to see a video where you dodge every Alakazam charge move with two Mewtwos and a Gengar (like the OP's team), and still win the raid in time. I don't think it is possible.

In my old video Zam, Gengar, and Pinsir can make PC FB Zam red at 54 second left, and i am using Houndoom at 4th position, not Tyranitar as a tanker, using Mewtwo will give more TDO with still very good DPS, better than PC SB Zam and Pinsir.
It is just PC FB Zam, different story with SB Zam and way different with C SB Zam
Yes i forgot to mention about taking last Zam charge move, so the next counter dont get hit by it, and the also possibility of failed to dodge.
My point is dodging is not entirely useless, it has its use. I wont survive the no dodging style in my new video if i met SB Zam..
Regardless of time, it is a 6 unique no legendary challenge, you can try that and hope to get 18 second left, wont happen against Zam in the current meta
And i am starting at 172-173, not using time saving tricks

I’ve soloed Psycho Cut+Shadow Ball variant twice now (imo one of the easiest movesets to beat). My team was as follows

Lv33 Gengar 14-15-15 Hex+SB
Lv31 Gengar 15-12-12 Hex+SB
Lv30 Gengar 12-12-14 SP+SB
Lv32 Houndoom 14-12-11 Snarl+FP
Lv31 Tyranitar 14-14-15 Bite+Crunch
Lv30 Tyranitar 14-13-14 Bite+Crunch

I have better options that aren’t as powered up yet but this is essentially my highest DPS team. The only exception is I didn’t use Banette with Shadow Claw+Shadow Ball because of how fragile it is. Worked for me but Confusion variants are another deal. Would probably have to remove a Gengar and throw in something tankier. Another Ttar to powerup?

I did an Alakazam Solo (Confusion + Shadow Ball) with 2 seconds to spare with the below team:

Mewtwo C/SB L30 10-15-14 (Got 5 Shadow Ball's off with dodging)
Gengar SC/SB L36 11-14-15 (Only 1 Shadow Ball as forgot to Dodge)
Gengar SC/SB L33 14-12-13
Ttar B/C L33 15-15-13
Ttar B/C L30 12-13-14
Ttar B/C L30 15-10-11 (Dodged SB at the end)

I only got 1 shadow ball off with one of the Gengar's and I had to dodge with the last Ttar. I powered the last Ttar up specifically for this match. Forgot I had a Level 34 Ttar with B/SE that I could have TM'd to make it easier, but ah well.

I can't believe you forgot the most important information in the fact that you are in Singapore and are in a very high turnover location...Not that any of us would ever know that...
