Alakazam help
Ok so basic question... I don't understand why Alakazam is considered good. Every time I use one in a raid he dies almost immediately. Confusion or Psycho cut it doesn't matter, they die before doing any real damage. Am I doing something wrong? I have soloed Machamp a few times with a team of espeons and exeguttors, but when I try to use Alakazam, he is dead in a few hits.
All of my Alakazams are about 2100, 80 to 91% IVs. Should I spend the stardust on powering them up? I just don't get it. Do I need to dodge more? Please help.

I start with an Alakazam - for his pure dps. It will mean that I get a lot of damage done early, and so the clock is not an issue.
Using him first means that Machamp won't be able to use a charge move for a while. With a dodge of his first charge move you should be able to get 2 FS off before he faints.
He won't last long, but done right he will rip a lot of damage very fast - and put the odds in your favour immediately.
If I am in a duo, I will use a couple, but in a solo, against the wrong moveset your second can be very fragile, once Machamp starts using his charge moves, so I only use 1.
EDIT Mine are powered up to lvl30.5(Pc/Fs) and lvl31.5(C/Fs)
Now there's a glitch that when you dodge and if the amount of damage w/o dogding would've been enough to KO Pokemon, the Pokemon takes full damage and faints
My Al fainted after one Muk's Gunk Shot a few days ago
When Niantic fixes this, Alakazam will be useful as he used to be
Still, as aSp said, you should start Raid with Al so you'll have time to drop more damage before Raid Boss uses his charge attack
With the meta being all about Level 4/5 boss raids, I agree that most mons now with very low HPs are pretty useless/meh...
In the old gym system, there was a case to use Alakazam since he was very potion efficient and you can dodge easier (yellow flash) and he hit Blissey/Snorlax hard with Focus Blast (I used mine all the time before). Also, a Blissey with Zh only did 1 HP damage to decently leveled Zams so you can last a LONG time. Raid bosses hit harder I think so there is much less case to use low HP mons now.
Also now, low motivated gyms are just less "hassle" to clear with DT/O Dragonite and dodging is sorta irrelevant for most gameplay (other than Tier 3 solo I'd guess).
I think celandro posted (Pokebattler creator) that he preferred bulkier mons in general for raids and I'm in agreement...Since my phone is also crap, it takes 40 secs to rejoin so if I avoid that, it makes a big difference in my damage bonus so I will soon be powering up a Lugia as well and plan to use a team that can last the whole raid battle (my own little strategy/fun to keep the game interesting)...
