Adventure synch with bike

I took my bike and took a long ride, I thought adventure synch would work, but no. Anyone is able to get working on bike?
Last night I strapped the phone to my leg while doing exercise on stationary bike just for a little while, this morning I opened pokemon go app, it gave me just over 1km. What the? Real bike didn't work, stationary does???
