No, it's impossible to solo, as are all the level 4 raid bosses.

Even if you had maxed out 100% IV Machamps, with the weather on your side, there just isn't enough time. Time to win is around 215 seconds at best and you only have 180 before even accounting for the usual lag.

I've tried. Can't be done solo. Cloudy weather does mean if you have maxed machamp team, you can grab just about any other one person and do it though.

EDIT - I'd add that if its not cloudy and you need to make sure partner x puts in their fighting pokemon (with fighting attacks) or you can still fail. I couldn't believe I failed with a level 34 person accompanying me who didn't have/use fighting Pokemon.

I failed a duo with a L40 player who did not change from the autoselect! An easy 120s win with the right counters on a L30 account. That’s how much using good counters matters.

No, it is not possible. Based on Pokebattler simulations, in a best-case scenario, it would take a single player around 210 seconds to defeat Absol in cloudy weather, using the only the very best counter (L40 Machamps with C/DP, IV's of 15A, 15S, and defense between 5-10).

To LeRoy's point, I once failed a duo attempt with another L40 player joining me, although my L36 daughter and I typically handle Absol with 30-40 seconds to spare. The other L40 player was using what I assume were the autoselect choices, including T-tar, Aggron, etc., despite my having said we could do it "if you have decent fighting types."

With lucky eggs and double-XP bonus events, there are now a lot of high-level players who really don't understand battle mechanics and type effectiveness very well.

The level 40 player should be at level 1.

Even Rayquaza and other high DPS Dragons should handle it easily.

There are a lot of people who assume that the "recommended" lineup is actually good. I did a Latios today with a big group, and half the people had Lugia as their first attacker. Lugia is a great pokemon, but not against Latios.

I got um down to the red but even if my champs all had an extra few IVs i dont believe it would have made a difference.
