When game started I had iPhone 5s and it worked fine at the beginning but after few updates the phone became useless. I bought Samsung Galaxy S6 which was great, smooth operation, pleasure to play but again after few updates, exactly last march the game became less fluent and although the other applications were with very smooth and fast operation. I had a chance to change phone S6 to S8 and it was again pleasure to play...until the very last update when it seems that game needs even more "processor power". To clear I am talking about very smooth operation without freezing and a joy to play. My old iPhone is still capable to run the application but I can not say that it is a "joy" to play. J7 is by processor power very similar to S6 ... it will play fine but consider that maybe within few months you'll start losing your nerves due the slow application. I sometimes wonder what smartphones people use and what is their tolerance for playing a game when the application runs slow.
About ~US$300 smartphone
Considering i have only little money to renovate my cellphone (around US$300) and the content/heavyness of the pGo app, what should i do?
Im aiming for the Samsung Galaxy j7 2016 version (around US$300 in my country) in terms of battery, processor and price, but i also want to consider some other similar options. What u think? And please, dont answer like "I have SG s8 and its a beast", i only have that amount of money. Ty.

I have a One Plus 3T and a part from the issues we all know (more battery drain and overheat each update) the game runs very smooth, almost with zero lag and a huge performance.
It is out of range of price so I would say checkout Xiaomi phones, a lot of people say great things about them and they are on that range, I don't know which one you should be, probably other xiaomi players can tell you their experiences, but I would check online for reviews of the ones that have 3g ram and a good processor and battery for that budget.
Agreed, I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 to play PoGo on cause I had a windows phone. The Xiaomi is a fantastic phone, it far exceeded my expectations for the price. Had I known how good they were I'm sure I would have dropped more coin into one of the higher spec models but there is nothing wrong with the one I have, it has a great processor for the price. I paid $140 USD about 6 months ago.
I wasn't interested in having a good camera, FHD screen or stuff like that, I just wanted a good processor and enough RAM to play PoGo. And a big battery.... and... and.. and lol
It's good if you can get a handle on the processor market (Qualcomm, Mediatek, etc.) which really allows to you assess value for money in any given phone. I wasn't gonna pay too much for extra RAM because I am good at managing what I have open at any given time.
The Xiaomi phones have good batteries but most of them are not replaceable, which I was apprehensive about. Mines going fine but when it dies its dead. They also do nice portable chargers but phones run hotter with a charger plugged in while playing, so it's nice to be able to not use it if you can get away with it.
I bought mine from Vickmall.com. They sell them with Global ROMs which has Google Play Store.
I'm sure there are other great phones out there for good prices. For PoGo, you want one with a capable and efficient processor.
