Why not give it a try? Befriend someone from another country, receive an egg from him or her, and check its location.

I have friends who are or were on vacation in Alaska, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii and have received multiple gifts with eggs from each of them. The results have been the standard mix of Meowth, Rat, and a few Grimer and Sandshrew.

I have not kept track of how any 7kms I have hatched but I will say all 3 of my vulpix have been from far away.

Could just be because they are rare and I have been prioritizing distance eggs for pilot. Who can say?

I am on the streak of hatching the 10th Sand shrews already. 9/10 of them are from far away, but not from the same location. Meanwhile just gotten 1 Grimer from local friend, and Meowth & Rat on random basis.
Me too was thinking if it is location related, or purely by luck.
